Bought the truck yesterday, joined the forum today. PO was a POS. No maintenance - so, I have a long list of fixes and upgrades. First and potentially scariest issue is slight antifreeze smell in the cab when it is running. Any ideas what this could be and how to research? No visible leaks. Radiator needed to be topped off, but the way this truck was maintained, it could be the original fluid.

Could be the heater core, but it could also be many other things.

If you can smell antifreeze in cab then heater core is leaking. Not a hard job to replace

I suppose as long as I'm at it, I may as well replace the cracked dash. Sounds like LMC is most economical and favored on these boards.

i swapped my dash just after buying my 2500 as well. i found a 1500 ram in a scrap yard that was on its way to a crusher and got the plastic dash for 40 bucks. i would start by looking around in the yards. lots of little bolts in the back to hold it all on

I like the LMC dash. Will probably get one for mine soon... the blend door in mine is having issues, gonna have to pull everything to fix it... might as well do the dash...

if its just the blend door motor it can be replaced without having to pull the dash. fifteen minute job.

Bad news on the LMC dash - they have none in stock and don't know when they will have them again if ever. They are looking for a new manufacturer.

When I ordered mine, they said the same thing about the light grey. I was able to order the dark grey...different color but it doesn't look out of place like I thought it would.

I'm curious, are they out of all colors now or were you looking for just the light grey?

I didn't ask for any specific color so i will assume they are out of all. I found one at junk yard but it is cracked in a couple places. I suppose I could cap it which is not an option w/ current dash.

What would be simplest way to remove dash from junkyard truck?

Hmmm...I ordered mine around that time too. Must have gotten one of the last ones. That's too bad but glad I ordered when I did since I'm still not ready to install. I was going to wait and would have been out of luck.

Yes it does. Looks just like the original as far as I can tell except for color. Of course mine came out in dozens of pieces lol.

I'd hold up on the heater code replacement until:
Coolant shows up on the floor of the passenger side of the floor or the windshield steams up on Defrost.
My heater stunk with coolant smell a year after I changed mine out. Seems there are low spots in the heater box that hold coolant even after you wipe it out good. It's ok now.
