What brand is the led headlights that you are looking at.
the only truly LED headlight that ive seen for a 3rd gen were the set I made. Do you have a set in mind?
67guzzler has a similar set and as far as I know hasn't had any problems. I bought the same setup but haven't had time to install them yet. As far as installing them in oem projectors you have to modify the back cover to clear the fan. He reported that they are brighter than halogens but no where near as bright as HID's.

I can't see that working. It should be less focally aligned than a HID bulb in a Halogen housing. I would think you would get a very poor pattern with lots of glare. I.E. less lighting than you currently have.
Maybe in a non projector headlight. But all style lights go out not forward. Controlling how the light projects forward and the lumens of the light determines how "bright" they are. If you notice the LED's lumens where about 1600 a bulb and a 55w hid will be between 3200-3500 per bulb. Halogens range between 800-1600. LED's are still very much in the infancy stage for drop in replacement headlights. If they can add about 1000 more lumens and not have over heating issue or need a fan to help keep them cool then you'll see that become a feasible alternative to HID's.

Every light has a reflector to focus and direct the light. If the burner does not match the focal point of the light, the light will not go the correct direction. HID projectors use a different shape reflector than halogen bulbs because the shape of the burn area is different. These led bulbs will have yet another focal length requirement to get the reflected light going the correct direction.

Look at the mathematics of a parabola to understand what happens to the beam when you are not at the focal point of the reflector. It results in a non focused beam.

ill pm ya, so i dont hijack the thread
Seems pointless to get LED lights if you still have to use ballasts.
The ballast with these are small enough that they can be tucked in the housing. What sucks is the fan on the back side of the light. It sticks out just shy of a 1/4" of the cover on the oem projectors. So you have to cut a hole so it fits through then needs to be covered and resealed.

Here is another thread on these

I bought a pair of these...

40W High Power 9005 9145 9140 Latest COB LED Bulb 3200LM Headlight Fog Lamp DRL | eBay

But I haven't put them in to make any comment on them.

I did however replace my Fog lights (9006 halogen bulb) with Rigid D2's (driving pattern) and they made a huge difference.

Below are some pics (not trying to derail)

Stock Lowbeam

Lows + D2's

They put out alot of short distance light but are lacking IMO for long distance, I need a 30" spot bar to get that done I suppose.

I'll try to post up with what results I can get from the LED headlights in my truck.

I am wanting to put these in my 3rd gen Vs. HIDs. How are you liking them?
