leaking tappet cover - I think

Oil all down the drivers side of the block mostly near the front. Cleaned it off & it comes back within a day. I may dive into the tappet cover just because.

Mike as usual has helpful info. General Cummins Tappet Cover Unveiled

I remember people saying to replace the cover with one from a 12V. Others say cover is likely warped. Is there any comparison between 12V & 24V covers?

How likely is the cover to be warped beyond sealing? I don't want a new cover if it is not necessary.

Just be real easy on it when popping it of the block and it should be fine also note that the new seal only goes on one way there is a thicker side to it and that goes toward block. The 12 valve cover has the crankcase breather built into the tappet cover so more of a choice where you want the breather to be.
Normally the cover is fine but the rubber seal around the edge cracks and starts to leak. I've done on a 1992 Dodge Cummins and lets say it not hard but makes for a long day.

I may do some while I'm at its while I'm at it...adjust valves, buy Edge Juice & injectors, heater core & AC compressor. I need to stop the leak & do the core before winter but need the 84SD a ready to DD before the truck goes down.

Drive old cars & it's always something.
I've got almost 200k on my truck and finally had to do the gasket, it was stuff as a rock. Once it was fixed I had no more underbody lubrication
Anyone that has to replace the IP would be well advised to replace the cover gasket at same time. You will kick yourself when you have to replace the gasket 20,000 miles later!!
While you are at it & have all or most of the IP lines off, pull the intake cover & do that gasket. Also, coat the intake cover bolts with sealant, due to them going into the plenum & having a possibility of a boost leak. If you are gonna take a weekend for it all, I would also suggest banjo washers at the return line on the back of the head & the return "TEE" rubber doohickies. You are disturbing alot & I had to do them all after doing an IP & Tappet cover gasket.

I did the VP a while back and did the cam sensor and return line T. I didn't find any reference to tappet cover when I did the VP so didn't change it.

So... reasonably recently VP, cam sensor, Return T but there is something leaking at the back of the head. The shop was going to take care of it when the trans was out and the truck was on a rack. Apparently they did not.

FSM shows banjo bolt and washers. Anyone know the size the washers are? 15MM?

Anything else?
I just need to check, I might have extras of the right ones.

Should be 12mm sealing washers. And the banjo bolt head size I believe is 16-17mm
