Hey guys... I noticed other day that the spots in the drive way are comming from my truck....26 K and its leaking fuel. I power washed the area of the rail, Looked around and did not see anything...leaking at idle....?? I then stuffed some paper towels under the injecter lines and the rear of the rail at the psi sensor. Quick blast down the block and back home. Opened the hood and the paper towel in the rear was soaked.
Called dealer to ask parts guy questions about the sensor, ready for this... $ 500.00 list. That is sick. My 5/100 warranty just ran out in January 2012. ( 5 years not mileage ). He said Dodge is selling about 15 a week but not because of a leaking prob.??
Any one have a leak in the rail area. I am only guessing it is comming from the sensor. It is wayyyyyy in the back of the rail, hard to see the dam thing.
I will try to get my Bore scope in there monday and see if I can see a drip.

My H&S is only on Mild, all most never on Mild or HOT.
Thanks
Matt

If you need a rail call Todd at T&C Diesel he can hook you up... and get a modded one while you are at it...

Hey Plowman, let me know if you figure out exactly where your leak is coming from because I am in the same boat. I can't see anything leaking from mine either but it is running down the back of the engine block and and finally dripping off of the bottom of the bell housing.

I have had a cracked line at the rail that looked like the rasil was leaking, and I have had a cracked rail.

If it is leaking it will not get better ... it will just get worse.

FYI

Just saying ...

there is a return line on the back of the block right there, might want to check and see if its tight.

Hey thanks kmkdiesel, I will check that. I have tried locating my leak using a flashlight hoping to see it but have been unsuccessful. Hopefully both Plow Man and I both locate our problem.

Well I cleaned every thing off today with the power washer at the shop today. Let it sit and dry in the sun and got all the water off. Stuck a piece of the white oil wipes we use for cleaning up oil spills..at work under the sensor in the back of the rail. ( I have off road in it so it looks like Cool Aid leaking ) Went around the block and looked at the wipe it was getting red. I tried to see with a bore scope but I do not see any drips???
It is Not leaking from any injector line, all dry. No leaks in the front of the rail. SO I think it is leaking from the sensor, or end of the rail,or the return line in the rear of the engine, but the line showed no fuel on it .
So rail or sensor.
Any input ?? I will continue looking Tomorrow but I do have to do some work instead of playing with my truck you know. !!
Thanks

back of the head I meant not block, I want to say its a 17mm banjo bolt too, but might be a different size.

I tried looking back there last night but couldn't see the exact line you are talkin about. I couldn't find my mirror so that made things difficult. Any way, I did see a line that runs back that way from the back side of the factory fuel housing. I tried following it but couldn't see where it went. Would that by chance be the line you are talking about?

The faces on the rail in either end are not as robust as you might think and they are prone to cracking if the sensor or relief valve is overtorqued.

If you suspect it is leaking at only high rail pressure, unplug the FCA and start the truck, DON'T rev it, just let it idle, and monitor for leaks. This will give you a really high rail pressure at idle and let you better inspect for the source of the leakage.

I picked up a used rail from underpsi on the forum here for a really good price, and it came with a new sensor and relief valve. You might try PMing him if you find you need a new rail.

FCA is the solenoid that is on the back of the high pressure fuel pump of the truck. Drivers side of the engine on the back side of the timing cover. It is a little 2 pin black connector.

talked to richard martin..owner of glacier diesel power..the rail sensor has no o-ring..the thread are how he explained it is the crush inside..so that tells me..unlike running a bolt thru a nut..the threads on the rail sensor are pipe threads..so just the threads seal it..he said to back off of the sensor and try to retighen the sensor..if that doesnt help it may need a new sensor.how this helps..i have the same pain in the butt leak.

False, there is a taper on the end that is the seal. It seals on the face.
