Just finishing up learning all the specifics on all these new features, seems they've added a few since my 98' :rof

Why do my two front door speakers sound so lousy, yet the two rear door speakers sound good?

Also, why must the radio audio come on every time I start the truck, even if I mute it before the last shut down? The only way I can keep the audio off on re-start is to have had turned the audio level to zero before the last shutdown.

I've gotta agree with Jabaniz... This Alpine system is crap! The only thing it has over the standard radio is the base..

Can you tell me if your front in door speakers sound different than the rear door speakers?

Does your radio come on every time you start up the truck?

Thanks

I don't know if the front and rear sound the same, but I do know the radio can't be turned off... I also know my fade setting doesn't hold. I like it a bit louder, from the rear, but every time my truck is restarted, the fade reset to center again... It's a royal PITA! Also, keep an eye on your radio changing inputs on it's own. Mine like to switch to Aux1, then to XM.... Doesn't do it all the time, but does it enough, where it drives me nutz!

Has anyone thought about adding a signal processor, digital sound processor or anything lie that?

In my 08 duramx, I added a JL clean sweep, jl amps, speakers and two sub woofers. I don't recall who makes GM's HU's but it sounded a little better, but not a lot. Mostly, I think because JL's clean sweep AND GM's HU sucked. All I was doing was amplifying the crap coming from the HU with a poor quality SP. It was so bad that I ended up bypassing the entire HU and putting a stand alone HU in. Luckily, I didn't have nav or BT.

I had been contemplating what I would do with the Laramie, once it comes in. Sounds like I'm up against the same animal; a ty hu:doh:

your front doors should sound different then rear doors, i think the fronts doors are midrange only, and rear doors are full range. The rear doors are about the only place in the truck to get a full range singal.

Yes, the radio comes on, but only to whatever i last left it on previous, I've never tried muting, only turned volume down

soon as I hear of someone trying a signal processor with good results on our trucks, I also would like to try it, waiting for lockpick to come out or someone else that will make a plug and play harness for this.

I replaced my front dash with JL and then replaced sub with JL sub and amp, but being the way the signals are set up in this truck, a complete rewire would prolly be in order.

Make sure you have it set to "surround sound". That made a huge difference.

R.K.
IMO, surround sound was awful, part of the reason i disconnected center dash channel.

I do believe that they can fix the ty sound with a radio software upgrades. My 2012 didnt sound as bad as my 2013

It may be, but as I eluded to, if the Alpine HU sucks, no sp in the world will fix it. All it will do is amplify the crap it's putting out.

I was actually considering upgrading to the Alpine factory system, but from what I'm reading here that system isn't really worth it?
Is this true?

My last really good car was a Mercedes, it had a great sys. The alpine sys. is actually better specially if you are tuned into sat radio. It's worth it.

I have an audio control digital processor and it makes a big difference cleaning up the signal. Running Memphis M class subs and JL C2 for mids and high. Also running Memphis M class amps. Still using same ty HU.

I guess for what the Alpine system costs, we shouldn't expect a lot out of it.

Some songs sound really good on mine, others sound like crap.

I just pulled out the factory Alpine sub in my 2014 and replaced it with 2-12" Alpine Type Rs in a Fox Acoustics box powered by an Alpine MRX-M110 amp. Holy crap! This thing slaps! Now I gotta turn it down at stop lights or risk looking like that idiot whose truck sounds like someone left their shoes in the dryer.
As far as the rest of the system goes, it all depends on how into sound quality you are. My wife's Mercedes has the Harmon Kardon "Logic 7" system. It can't hold a match to the upgraded stock Alpine system in my Ram. That said, there is room for improvement in the factory Alpine system only for the most discriminating audiophiles. Unless you're REALLY into SQ, the upgraded Alpine stock system is money well spent and sounds awesome. Maintaining the factory steering wheel controls is nice too. I would never change my HU. In fact, my wife was ticked because I let her hear how good the stereo was before I "upgraded". It was tough trying to rationalize spending more money on an already good factory system. My advice? Bring an ipod with an auxiliary cord to a dealer and see for yourself.

Where did you mount your subs? Got any pictures?

My buddy is a sound engineer and stereo buff.

He really likes the sound in our 2014 Longhorn MegaCab, especially when the rear seats are folded flat and the EQ and fade are adjusted correctly.
