ladder bars or traction bars?

What is better for a dd that would do a little of everything. Towing off roading, drag racing, and possibly some sled pulls? I originally was going to build my own traction bars by buying brackets, links, dom tubing, and the sleeves that go inside so you could put a 1.25" rod end in. But after looking at prices of all this I would have about the same $ involved as motorsports diesels ladder bars. Would ladder bars work ok? Does shane even still make them?

If offroading involves articulation of the rear axle then ladder bars hands down.

Well its def not a rock crawler, but I imagine articulation is needed for trails. I'll have to check with shane to see if he is still making his kits. I'll probably ask him when he calls me about my injs. And cp3
I asked Shane a few weeks ago,he doesn't make them anymore.ladder bars are more solid and stable than a single bar.
Oh, :eek:hno:. Well that sucks I really liked the looks and design on them. Any other ladder bars someone would reccommend?
Glacier diesels are very nice but little pricy.
I dont know they are $800 and connect to the rear axle using u-bolts. I don't really care for that because u-bolts can slide...
4 link the rear.......
4 link the rear.......
I don't want to invest that much time or money into the rear.
Ladder bars hands down!!!
I haven't been able to find any other ladder bar kits other than gdp. Personally I feel that the motorsports diesel ones were the best looking design and lower profile setup. But they are no longer available. I dont feel the gdp bolt on bars are worth what they are asking. I've seen dunks performance and wide open performance for traction bars in old threads. I couldn't find any website for wide open. I was originally going to build my own traction bars, but had somewhere at least around $500 just in parts. Using ballistic joints, bungs, and brackets. Any other ideas?
Ballistic has a traction bar kit that you could buy and use longer tube. The kit is like 200, some extra tubing and a frame mount and you would have a kit for like 350

Hopefully there is twice supplied what's in the picture, and there is frame mounts they are the little rings for the top of the shackle. So all I would need is longer dom and the axle brackets would need enlarged. I'm going to email them and see what could be done.
Its for both sides. I was thinking of using that kit. Ill just buy two long tubes that match the stuff in the kit and customize it. All I would need it the frame mount. They have them and I would weld them on

Ballistic had some bad customer service issues the last year or so but they have turned that around 100%. They make high quality stuff!
That's good to hear I shot them an email to see if they could sell me longer pieces of dom. I'm guessing I would probably need 16-18' about 6' for the lower bar and about 2-3' for the top bar on each side. Maybe I should see if they would be able to sell me 2 10' sticks for the kit and if they would be able to enlarge the brackets for on the axle for 4".
I think you should be able to order what size bracket you need

Ok reviving an old thread. I don't really feel like building a ladder bar kit of my own, due to the fact I'd have to use the welder at work. Shane, can't seem to keep a welder employed, so has anyone seen any kits other than gdp lately?
I would prefer ladder bars, but the only one i can find is gdp's expensive bolt on. Im looking at either dunks performance traction bars or cpps.
I can't stomach 800 for ladders... In leaning toward Dunks. Need to do something though, wheel hop sucks!
