Lack of power?

Ok all I’m at my wits end with this one. I need some input.

2001 ram 3500 5.9 auto 4x4 drw hy35 turbo
3.54 gears trucks weighs about 12,350 without a trailer
Built the trans as well thinking it was losing power there.

When I bought it it was dog sh*t slow wouldn’t boost above 17 lbs. even played with tunes in the smarty jr.

Installed dpp 100hp injectors
No change. Just Smokey now.

Wired wastegate shut. Gets to 18lbs a lot faster.

Bought a used hx35. Wastegate wouldn’t fit it was off a medium duty application. So I removed it and wired it shut. Boosts 27lbs now.

I feel like it should be boosting a lot more than that. Also it’s hazy at idle and under light load.

Is it possible the pump timing is locked or something? What should I be checking for?

I should also mention the egt don’t really go above 1200 under wot but when I am rollin down the freeway and make it down shift it’ll start clouding even under full boost. 🤷‍♂️ any input is appreciated.

Ddp injectors are notoriously hot and smokey. 30 psi I what I would expect with your setup.

I think your issue with a slow truck originally was just it being a stock 2nd gen, now the smoke issue is your injector brand.

The hx35 is out of steam by 35 psi. You will need more fuel to go from 30 psi to 35 psi. Either bigger injectors or a wiretap tuner.

Boost does not equal power, it is simply a number showing you resistance in the system. Boost is generated by fuel, if you want more boost you need more fuel.

Your pump is likely fine as your boost is on par with the fueling you have. If your pump wasn't advancing timing you would get a p0216 code.

Don't be so stuck on boost numbers. Unless you want to step up fueling your setup is right where it should be.

You are not going to solve the haze issues with ddp injectors. Dap is a good source that will run much cleaner.

The smarty is also dirty tuning, I prefer the quadzilla.


Some 7 x .010 injectors plus a quad will be night and day difference in power and also run smoke free with a proper tune.
