Hey guys,

So far as I can tell, when the battery in my keyfob runs out, I won’t be able to start the truck (2006). I can unlock the driver side door, but the alarm goes off and the starter circuit is interrupted. I believe this truck only has original equipment. Do I just need to keep an extra battery and mini toolset in the glovebox? Anyone know which battery it takes?

Thanks for any help!
Matt

As he^ said the truck, I have a couple of after market keys with no fob, just the rfid chip. I have several just so I never have to go to the stealer to have new keys programmed again.

Replacement keys

Ohh cool, how do you get one of those (key and rfid)? My only spare just unlocks the door right now.
You can buy uncut replacement keys at a hardware store or online at Amazon. Have them cut to match your existing keys. The batteries are usually easy to replace. With most fobs you can remove a screw or just pry open and replace the coin style battery. If you add new keys with RFID codes, you'll have to go through some programming steps to get them to work. The online vendors who sell these keys usually include the instructions with the keys. In some cases, you'll have to have a locksmith do the programming. Still cheaper than going to the dealer.

Here's an example of programming instructions:
