Where to begin.........
Last monday on my way to work I lost all power in my 2012 SRW 2500 slt. I was able to limp into work where I threw a scanner on the pickup and got the P0087 code. Long story short pickup is under warranty so I decided to take it to the stealership and just get it fixed. Received a call the next day and was told that they think I had a BAD fuel issue causing the failure. I have a 90 gallon RDS tank in the bed and a 60 gallon titan replacement tank under the pickup. I was on the last 30 or so gallons when the failure happened so I had a hard time believing it was bad fuel.
Well to my surprise I went down to the dealer and looked at what resembled a fuel filter covered with creamy peanut butter. Never seen anything like it in my life, was totally blown away. After checking the 90 gallon transfer tank and seeing that it was clean it was determined that someone vandalized my pickup a day or two before the failure.
After talking to the service manager I was looking at a 15k plus repair bill and a pickup that was worth about 25 grand. Now to review my security cameras when I get back to work and see who did it. I recently fired a couple mechanics for stealing fuel and parts so I wouldn't put it past either one of them to destroy my ride.

Well I'm now the proud owner of a 2015 2500 Laramie. Absolutely love the new ride!
Next purchase will be a locking fuel door!!

Unbelievable, hope you caught them on camera and can press some charges.

Did you and the dealer both take photos? Did either of you contact the police? Both would have been a good thing - then you can go over the footage and see if you caught something.

That level of damage takes it well into the felony range.

I was pretty much in shock when I saw the filter. Would have made sense to pull my phone out of my pocket and take a picture or two but I just didn't think about. To be honest I was too pissed off to think straight. I will be spending a few hours going over my camera footage Monday Morning for sure. Will keep you guys posted if I find something.

Sorry to hear, really pisses me off when people screw with other people's hard earned stuff. I would file the police report and see if they will handle it if your security cameras show the details.

Good luck

With the capless fill, if it was indeed vandalism, a funnel would have been needed to have gotten anything past the 2nd flapper.

Did it look anything like these pics????

My 12 still had a fuel cap. And as far as the pictures go, it was much worse. the whole bottom of the filter was coated in a layer of what I thought to be brown grease at first glance. Was not gritty at all and was very thick. The tank had a nasty layer of the same crap all over it. The of it was the transfer tank in the back of the truck was clean as a whistle. That is what also leads me to believe it was vandalism as the fuel box is always locked so someone can't screw with it.

Also the fuel that was currently in the main tank when it failed came out of my transfer tank.

15K repair? What do you think they put in there to do so much damage. I hope your insurance will take care of that.
I wish I knew what they put in the tank. I've worked at a heavy equipment company for the last 20 years and have seen some messed up fuel filters but this was a first. I'm pissed I didn't take a picture now to show you guys.

My friend is the OP of this thread http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/07-5-09-3rd-gen-6-7l-powertrain/141501-problem-shakes-bad.html and it was $17k on a 3rd GEN 6.7L back in 2009.....

Algae? Why 15K repairs. The damage was beyond the filters?

For what it's worth I have 700 miles on the new ride and love it! I'm down two dirtbag mechanics that were stealing from me!! The person or persons that did this will get theirs some day one way or another. I'm a little lighter in the wallet but all in all life is good.

6 injectors at 1200 each, high pressure pump, lift pump, dropping and cleaning the 60 gallon tank at almost 10 hours not to mention cleaning out the entire fuel system. I was at the 10K mark in parts and current billable hours when I decided to dump it and buy the new one. No telling what the bill would have ended up being.

Just realized I said 6 injectors at 1200 each. Wrong 1200 for the injectors.
