So I have been looking around for a cummins for a few months now. I don't ever get overly excited and just buy the first truck that I see, so it took me a bit.
I just picked up a 2007.5 CCSB 4x4 6.7 6spd. It has just over 100k on it, slt model, mods include heavy duty clutch, 5" turbo back with dpf/egr delete, smarty jr s67(non us serial number:thumbsup
. Also has what appears to be a leveling kit, with basic wheels and nitto terra grapplers. First of all, I gave 22k for it counting everything, I think it was a pretty fair price for a very clean rust free truck, opinions?
I have had a 6.0 powerstroke for a few years now, and before anything is said about that, I have zero complaints about that truck or that motor. It has served me well, and I didn't get rid of it for any other reason than I am just ready to try something new.
Now, I do have a few questions.
I have been doing a lot of searching and reading, and I believe that since the s67 has a non us serial number, I can upload current updates that I have seen here to make it work even better, and still work with the deletes. True?
Something I have noticed is that the guy that did the egr delete looks like just did the unplug and leave in place. I will be installing a sinister delete kit and getting rid of all the stock stuff, but it makes me wonder is there anything DPF wise that was left when the exhaust was removed?
Also, on the egr valve itself, there is no cover installed over the open port where the connecting tube once was. There is on the cooler side....but whatever. Could this have damaged anything? I am the third owner, and the guy I bought it from says it was all done when he got it so he doesn't know. He says that every once in a while it will throw "some kind of" egr code and he has it cleared and he wont see it again for months. i have to believe that it is related.
The thing about my 6.0 that i knew and everyone knows is without headstuds, tuners are not safe. On this motor however, I find nowhere that says "DO NOT TURN THE TUNE UP". All I really see is that once you turn it up you will want more and then it gets risky. Is it safe to run a out of the box tune on these motors with little to no risk of serious damage? I do not ever plan on making this a high horsepower truck, just hauling my boat, bikes, cars and trips to the hardware store, etc., but I enjoy a little spirited driving as much as anyone. Bottom line, if i turn the tuner to the 100hp setting, am I going to hurt something other then tire life?
