Sounds like it is all highway miles to me. Was it a heavy hauler? If so I would not buy it personally.

Are the injectors good? If they have not been changed after 191k expect to pay a few grand for new injectors then. Check for blow by out of the oil cap.

If everything looks good then it might be an alright truck with a lot of miles. $15k is too much with that many miles UNLESS the old owner was anal on keeping everything perfect on the truck. The injection system is what will kill you for that high of mile truck.

so in your opinion, with a truck with this many miles, and a very clean looking truck, i should maybe stay away from? i am gonna test drive it and stuff. is there any things i should really pay attention to while i am doing it?

well i would check by how long it turns over before it starts after sitting for awhile. that will give you alittle heads up on the health of the injectors.

how bout tranny? any problems with that? i hear from alot of people that this was a pretty good tranny. i might be wrong. and i heard this engine is one of the best compared to the 24valve in my 98 and the new 6.7L. obviously it has more power then the one ion my 98' but i am talking about quality and longevity and how often i am going to be buying parts for the dang thing.

body condition on a truck with that many miles means nothing.

it's all about condition of the expensive items, engine and tranny. you could easily have to dump another $15,000 into the truck in the next year if engine and tranny are not in primo condition, especially if you start adding power options and/or hotrodding it

spend a couple hundred bucks and take it to a diesel truck shop for a go over by a mechanic that works on Dodge/Cummins and is familiar with the 48RE or it may come back to rip your wallet off your pants.

another good thing to look at on these rigs! Check for play in ball joints and u joints. i have heard of a few people going threw these alot, but that mainly depends on how hard the truck was driven. i personally havent had any problems with mine. I f the truck runs good and shifts good i would buy it! i wouldnt be scared to buy it!

I heard a buddy of mine, who also drives an 05' CTD, say "its a 300k+ engine in a 100k mile body". As long as the engine had regular oil changes it should be good. Take it to a shop and have em' give it the once over.

the list price is 24k? that doesnt seem right to me with 191K on the odometer
i saw many truck for sale when i was looking for mine and a typical 06 with 75k on it was about 24 grand this is just going by memory though. what the guy is asking sound about right to me.

oh and my opinion, i wouldnt buy a truck with that many miles, ur almost sure to have to do some significant work soon. like said, injectors, trans, front axle u-joints/ball joints, maybe front hubs/bearings. but hey, if u drive it and have a shop look at it and everything checks out who knos...

:agree2: About all I can add to all this sound advice is that I would want to start it myself with a cold engine...like after sitting overnight. It may tell you a lot. I think it's a good price if it all checks out ok.
