Anyone have experience with Johnny joints on track bars on these trucks? My bar from dodge off road has Johnny joints on both ends. And they wore out in 8k miles. Got so sloppy I got death wobble. Rebuild them with the help of a friend and they are worn again in 20k. I’ve tried talking with dodge off road they don’t care. They got my money I guess. All they would do is offer me 10% off a new bar that looks just like carlis track bar. They also wouldn’t answer my emails. I had to call them.

This only after 8k miles!

That’s with 20k one them. So I guess I’m going to need to start shopping for a new bar I don’t want to have to keep rebuilding this bar every 8k to 20k, what’s even better I talked to currieenterprises and they said the two inch joints that’s on the bar, is really to small for my truck. They were meant for a Jeep not a full size pick up. He seem alarmed that someone was putting these joints on a track bar and selling it for a dodge truck. He looked them up and said they aren’t in their approved resellers list. So I guess the jokes on me now .

The DOR bar isn’t even close. Here are pics of both. The DOR has thinner walled tubing, a weld-in bung instead of the heim threading directly into the base material, and has less jam nut surface area. Also, I notice they have Carli parts listed on their site, but have managed to make it on to the Carli unauthorized dealer list: https://carlisuspension.com/retailers/

Back in 2012 I swapped to an Extreme Articulation tracbar. Dave mentioned I would never have to mess with that bar again (weld in bucket on the frame so no going back to stock). Being a skeptic, back in 2016 I bought a new axle end bushing thinking it was probably done. Had a shop take a look at it with the $25 bushing in hand ready to swap in along with the adjustment tool for the ballistic joint end and they say no need, still tight. Now, 2018, still the same response upon inspection.

I installed that bar back in 2012 @ approx 190k miles, I now sit at 381k and have yet to have to adjust it (ballistic joint on frame end) or rebuild it.

Find a good design and stick with it. Take the above recommendations, place the order, install it and be done with it.

Yep wish I had done that in the beginning. Nothing like having to buy a part twice.

That doesn’t surprise me at all,

That’s pretty impressive. So is the company called Extreme Articulation? Why did they have you weld in the bucket?

Couldn’t agree more. Tried dodge off roads steering box brace, Danny sent me 5 none of the would line up right. He can’t fabricate to save his life. He’s a joke.

The frame end joint would not fit in the oem bucket... Over sized frame end joint, has a ballistic joint on that end

Interesting, I looked up a ballistic joint up. And it looks a lot like a Johnny joint. Even the bushing and center ball. They sell a 2inch weldable joint and a joint with a threaded shank that might tread in the other side . All most tempt to have my uncle cut the Johnny joint off and weld on a ballistic joint . But not sure if it last any longer since it would be the same size as the Johnny joint. Out of Curiosity how big was your ballistic joint on your track bar?

So folks think the original track bar lasting 5-15 years is not good enough and then buy these things, various varieties. ?????

Its a 2.63 joint.... Verify the joint fits in the frame bucket before you mod the bar.

I see the ballistic joints have a spanner nut to adjust play out of them. Did you ever have to adjust the joint any?

ON the tracbar, no. Every time I ask techs to check it they all say it is tight and no play on either end. Control arms on the other hand were different Had to adjust them a few times and felt they were nearing a rebuild when I went back to stock. Another adjustment may have taken care of it.

And come to think of it, that piece has been the most durable piece on my truck over the last 6 years since it went in.

Thanks for the info, I’m going to call ballistic fabrications and see what they say about using their joints on my bar. And what life span I can expect .

Doesn’t look like ballistic joints makes a joint that will work for me. So I guess my best bet is the carli track bar. That or just keep rebuilding my current bar every 8 to 20k .

Anyone know how long the new redesigned Carli track bar will last? Hopefully longer then 8 to 20
K lol.

Word on the street, it is the beefiest yet. I wouldnt accept any less than a 100k from it.

That would be great if it lasted 100k. Wonder how hard it is to rebuild when the time comes. Johnny joints aren’t fun. I’m sure if you bought the tool to press them , it would make it easier. I thought about it. But I don’t want to have to pull the bar off every 8 to 20k .

That's about as much fun as a migraine.

The one end is a rod end, so it just threads in. The other is the CUB joint. I believe a standard ball joint press will take care of it. Or a hammer and socket, the OG style.
