The ball joints are getting replaced due to in and out movement of the upper ball joint. I understand the steering knuckle should not be reused if the tapered openings are too damaged.

Here is a pic of the upper tapered opening with some wear rings. My fingernail will not hang up on then but they can be felt.

Unfortunately it seems I buggered up the lower tapered opening when I removed the retaining nut. I cut some groves with the stud as it spun in place. Again, the grooves are noticeable but do not hang up a fingernail. Should I replace the steering knuckle or is this small enough not to worry about.

Balljoint needs to be press fit, with just those small grooves I would reuse.
Make sure bottom of knuckle does not contact axle .
