I am looking at buying a truck i have not looked at it yet but he sent me a pic and the truck is rust free. Its a southern truck with 310200 miles on it. He is wanting 9500 out of it. Is it worth it? What do i have to look out for with it having that many miles on it? Says he has a new tranny in it. He said the previous owner that had it hauled empty trailers for a dealerships. Everything is stock except the exhaust.

if it's any consollation...i paid $8500 for my '01 6spd QCSB, with a cattleman front bumper, with 170K miles on it, it needs front end work and i had to replace water pump and lift pump (only cost $30, got one from a buddy.) everyone says i got a screamin deal. oh, and it's on 35's.

That is a lot of miles on the truck, not the engine! While is is only 40K short of mean rebuild mileage, if the engine is still stock, it will likely go well past that.
check the engine for blow-by, if it is low, then concentrate on the truck!
Front end is it sold and tight, it is the weakest part of these Dodge packages for the Cummins. If is good and the rest of the truck is good dicker on the price and enjoy your Cummins, I bought at 234K.

i just got done shopping for a dodge ram 2500. i found most dealers were around 9-15K for a 2nd gen truck. most private parties were around the 7-9K range. i ended up buying a 2500 quad cab long bed 4X4 for 5800.00 with 270K non 53 block. but i feel i got lucky for this price, i would say see if you can talk it down and if you have access to the truck go and look it over with a fine tooth comb. when i looked over this truck i bought i checked diff gears, fuel pressure, alternator voltage, heating systems, trans fluid consistency, cylinder compression, and internal wiring/computer codes.
