Is it necessary to keep the Mini Max plugged into the OBD II all the time

After installing the mini max program to my truck, is it necessary to leave it plugged into the OBD II port all the time or can I remove it and leave it at home?
I dont change the settings and currently keep it plugged in and hidden under the dash.
If I unplug it would the truck start throwing codes?

You'll be fine without it plugged in.
If you unplug it it will revert back to the "stock" power level.

If you don't have mcc then the tuner will default to stock/no power setting and your timing will stay at whatever level you chose. This will not be good for your head gasket if you are running level 2 timing or higher with no power. If you have mcc then put your favorite tune in the no power spot and you'll be good to unplug.
I have MCC tranny tune loaded. I'm running my Mini Max on Stock setting, been that way since install. Dont want to chance blowing a head gasket or my tranny. Using Mini Max primarily to keep the truck from throwing codes
Running the mini on the stock power level is asking for trouble not to mention it makes less power that the truck did from factory.

If you don't want a hp increase it should be ran on the tow setting with timing set at 2-3

Dave Mathews from DRACONIAN Diesel set up the MCC file for me. I dont know how he set up the timing but running the truck on stock has increased my MPG's (18.5-19.5 average) and I'd be surprised if it made less power now than it did before deletes, it just feels so much faster and stronger. I specifically asked to keep the tuning as close to factory settings as possible, my only wish was to keep the CEL happy and not compromise reliability.

During the initial download to your truck it will ask you what level you want your timing at 1-5. If you didn't change it it defaults to 3.

The problem is the timing level stays the same but you are able to adjust the fuel amount (power levels). Timing set even at 3 is not a good combination for the stock power level.

what should the timing be set to in order to run it on Stock setting?
So whats 2-3

Personally I wouldn't run it at all. If your dead set on it though I would stick to level 1

So whats 2-3
Setting 2 or 3
So on tow and 2 should be fine or 3

is there anyway to find out what timing 1,2,3...it's currently set to??

No you have to go threw the instal process again. Remember default is 3 so If you don't remember changing it that's likely what its set to.

Either will be fine

what is the difference between stock and tow settings and how does timing effect them differently? I obviously do not know, any education would be welcome..
H&S has dubbed them "power levels"

However the only variable that changes when you toggle a different level is the amount of fuel being injected.

Now timing controls when the injector opens and starts injecting fuel into the chamber. When you add more fuel you need to (should) advance your timing to get a more complete burn (more power). So you have the option to pick from 5 different levels of timing. Again the problem is the only thing you can change on the fly is the amount of fuel, so depending on what your timing is set on it might be too much or too little. Too much timing is going to blow your head gasket sooner or later, too little and your egts are going to be very hot and your truck will be smokey and get poor fuel mileage.

thanks for taking the time BigCE, I'm still left with a lot of unanswered questions but for now it seems like the best and safest thing to do is reload the tuner and ensure the timing is set to "1" setting. I dont want to add more power (burn more fuel) I feel the current performance is sufficient and is enough to put a smile on my face. the way it's currently set up it does not smoke (good thiing).
