I have a 2006 and when i shift from 2-3-4 and sometimes to 5th it blows quite a bit of black is that bad?? thanks
Is this a new issue? Are you running a pretty hot tune? Big turbo? You might have a bit too much fuel down in the lower part of the map or not enough timing. If you can back that off some it would alleviate the smoke..

Just a puff or like a continuous stream of it?

Just a puff is not gonna damage anything. This is quite normal on manual trucks on gear changes until the turbo picks back up. If you've got a continuous stream of it then your EGT's are also very high and at some point you're gonna cook something. Sounds to me that your tune is not as dialed in as it could be.

Also high mileage cam & crank sensors will also start pushing some smoke, when they degrade over time they artificially advance timing.

Cummins only on this part, it is cheap and same part for both positions.

never been tuned stock injectors and stock turbo and it will blow smoke every shift 0 - 60 and can fill a intersection black

Yeah I wouldn't want to be driving like that personally.

Is this an issue that just appeared or is it something that's happened since you bought it?

boost leak comes to mind immediately.

I second the idea of a boost leak.
Low boost= smoke
