Intermittant Dead Pedal - No Codes

1623 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  tlhunter49
During the past two weeks my truck has developed an intermittant dead pedal. I cycled the ignition key three times but no codes appeared other than 0500 (speed sensor). The speedometer and tach both work fine. Fuel pressure is 14-15 @ idle and 13 @ cruise. I'm wondering if the APPS can be malfunctioning despite no codes being shown. The dead pedal events are very short in duration the last being yesterday on the freeway. I was cruising at 65 mph and tried to accelerate but the truck wouldn't go any faster. This situation lasted maybe 4-5 seconds then it responded

I agree with Mrlimeysteve...

Disconnect you batteries and let it sit for at least 30 mintues...

ECM Calibration: (Copied from the Dodge FSM)
Turn key to ON position. Without starting engine, slowly press throttle pedal to floor and then slowly release. This step must be done (one time) to ensure accelerator pedal position sensor calibration has been learned by ECM. If not done, possible DTC’s may be set.

But it might fix it it might not... But there is only 2 things that cause a dead pedal.

1. VP44 is dieing (~$1,200)
2. APPS Sensor is dieing (~$400)

Either case they are both expensive. But the APPS sensor is a dealer only item...

I've got the same problem. I've replaced my VP pump and I still get an occaisional dead pedal. It turns the "check engine" light on, but usually resets itself after the ignition is turned off and started again the second or third time.

I got a lot of good information about a less expensive APPS replacement here http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/54322-anatomy-apps-sequel.html So I think I'm going to give it a try.
i am having the same problem dead pedal, no codes ...just replaced the lift pump awhile back its working fine evreything seems ok. what is the best way to diagnois this apps sensor?
I went thru all that a while back. Replaced apps, vp & lp ended up being ecm
