Insuring your high dollar build

I'm going to be putting a lot of money into my truck soon. Just wondering if people are insuring the high cost extras on their trucks or how to go about getting the right insurance to cover the loss you would incur on theft or accident. Im a little worried about it.

You will have to check with your insurance agent and see what options you have it really is the only way to know for sure what will, won't or can't be covered. Most companies will allow you to increase or add coverage for aftermarket goodies but each company is a little different and there are some things most companies won't insure.

At any rate you're likely going to be looking at actual cash value (ACV) so the parts will be depreciated before a claim is paid.
I never insure parts, your rates can sky rocket. Not only will they assess the value higher, they will also list your car as a higher tier vehicle. I have a 5th gen Camaro built to the moon and it's insured a stock, I would get dropped the second they found out what was done to it.
Hmm ok thanks for the replies blizzard your not afraid of the insurance not working with you? If they find out your car is heavily modded?
I have set up insurance to cover things on a car I had previously and it wasn't too much more. Its worth a shot.
they told me just keep your reciepts and it will cover it state farm
I've got receipts and all the invoices, but even with "full" coverage from the get go you won't get face value. From what I've heard, the best you can do is keep the receipts and hope they pay for some of it.

What has me worried is if mine gets stolen. I would have to pay full retail to find a replacement with as low a miles and clean as mine. I know insurance would not pay that much.

yes they will... they will pay full retail plus sales tax. You may have to fight a little and show what your truck is actually worth, but you would get replacement value.

getting back money on modifications, however, not so much unless you specifically insure the truck at a declared value

Most companies will only cover up to a certain amount in add-ons without a separate/specific policy.
Forrest if correct. As a former agent I had costumers who would endorse parts and pieces at minimal extra cost. Similar to adding a jewelery to a home owners our renters policy
