Hey- i know this subject has prob. been beat to death but anyone with some insight might help!
2006 5.9l 4*4, 50000 k mi, megacab, stock except for smarty jr. and banks exhaust break.
The truck runs great, starts perfect, doesn't smoke. however, i get this rattle @ 1200-1800 rpm, sounds like the famous injector rattle that is well documented on these trucks. when i get on it the rattle is gone. its very anyoing.
What i have tried: i always use a fuel additive every fill up, used to use diesel kleen, started using Howes lubricator- no difference. recently, started using 1/2 oz / gallon of 2 stroke ashless outboard oil. No difference.
I played with diff. settings on the smarty, when in SW3 tm4 tq 2 rattle was worse. (i know the timing was too advanced) set it to sw3 tm 3 tq 2 a little better. I even went back to the stock program and the rattle was more noticable. Currently my setting is SW3 tq2 tm3.
I feel that in the summer i didn't have this problem or it was a heck of alot better, does it have something to do with winter mix? i have tried different fuel stations to no avail. This is my first Cummins and my first year owning it.
Is this a situation where i need to turn the radio up? Any suggestions would be great!
