injector help

I just got my head studs in and changed the valve springs and put in the 4k gsk. I think it is time to choose injectors. I have absolutely no idea where to go here. The motor is a 97 215hp I have a #10 fuel plate did the afe mod and have an aurora 3000 turbo I can get my hands on (still has the stock turbo for now). I would really like to see 450hp truck is standard. Looking for some input on what injectors to buy and if I should do dv's at the same time or not needed. The truck is a daily driver I use it off road alot and the most I pull is a 24' camper (maybe 5,000lbs loaded) Thanks for any input

With the stock turbo I'd say 5x.011s which is a 100ish hp stick. And with the aurora I'd say 5x.014 you need a egt gauge before you add anymore fuel and you probably need to set the timing on it. It'll pick up a lot with just advancing the pump timing to 16.5-17* degrees.
Motor is not in the truck right now and probably wont be until after christmas at this rate. I already have a pyro, fuel psi, and boost gauge. I did the kdp and I am waiting for the indicator to come in for setting the timing. I have a 4" down pipe and straight exhuast. I am not dead set on the aurora I am really looking for something that spools quickly.
Like I said I have no idea what the aurora is I would hope it's not a 66 or bigger. A good street truck and dd would be a 62/64/14 something close to that with 5x.012 injectors and a raptor 150 and it's be your decision on delivery valves if you even needed them a good pump time and 17 degrees timing. Head studs of course. And you'll be set. If the motor is out go ahead and pull the head and tell a machine shop to deck it and o ring it.
Head has been decked I will not be putting in o-rings, arp head studs already in. I also have no idea the size of the ats 3000 turbo sitting. Its on my buddies shelf thought I would try it out. I was thinking of going with the sdx 5x.014 injectors, if I did what would be a good turbo choice I also have an h40x.
For 5x.014s a 62 to 64 depending on if you get delivery valves. And a exhaust not to big of a exhaust turning just a few mm over the inducer wheel. And a exhaust housing at about 14 cm about 14 depending on how fast you want it to spool the smaller the faster the spool but it's not as good in top. I said screw a single I went with a very good cheap set of twins.
I would love to do twins but still need to buy a clutch and money is tight. Also the conversion motor mounts are like $600 if I dont just make them myself. I didnt know if I could go bigger with the injectors and tune it to them until I can get everything else in order instead of buying twice?
Yea I would just go with the 5x.014 and then see how hot it gets and if it ain't hot stick some .024 in te pump. And you'll have to do some tuning on the pump. I said screw it and with 5x.016s which is capable of 250 hp or more. If my egts ain't high I'm gonna stick some either full cut dv's and have to do some pump tuning or go with the .024 not as much fuel equals lest heat not as much pump tuning but less power
I guess I should have just been asking what turbo to use! I do like the 5x.014's I guess I need to do some more research on the turbo will gladly take any input.
From what I found it's a 57 inducer wheel and a 73 exducer wheel with a much larger exhaust housing. So it'll be a tad bit slower than stock spool with right fuel and keep your truck cool
Aurora 3000's spool really nice. Really not any difference between a stocker if tuned right. That turbo and 5x12's would be perfect together for a tow rig.

SDX is no longer in business. You will want to talk with Chris at Ducky Fuel Injection. He was part of SDX when they were still going. You can go with a bigger injector if you know how to tune them. It's much easier to tune with the right size injector when towing is part of the equation though.

The hx40 would work fine, if you have the right one. They ranged from 56-60mm. If it is a 60, you can just get the cover machined and put that 60 wheel on your stock turbo and have a good cheap turbo too. Way cheaper than an aurora. If it has the 16cm exhaust housing you can bolt it right on as a complete turbo and be fine too. Will just be a little laggy.
Wow just saw this. Yeah no reason for 5x14s and for sure not 5x16s if you're just going for 450hp. 5x12s, stock DVs, and a hx35/40 hybrid or that Aurora 3K would work very well and make a good smooth, cool running 450hp. Time it to 16-18*, and tune your pump. I also second Chris at DFI, I'll be ordering some new injectors from him in the next week or two.
Yeah I was looking for sdx for about an hour last night before I realized they didnt exist anymore also found DFI prices seem pretty reasonable. I really appreciate all of the input and I do agree with the 5x.012's I think they will be a better match for my plans, I would love to see 500hp at some point but I think it is reachable with the 5x.012's in the future my main concern right now is like you said keeping the engine cool and would also like to retain some good fuel mileage event though the truck has 38's on it and is built for offroad use it sees extensive highway and towing time. I thought that the hx40 was prone to breakage due to the smaller shaft?
The hx40 is on up there with the turbos that are pretty much indestructible. You are rights it is more easier to break but more than likely you won't. I put my 5x.016s in last night just to see what it would do and it picked up a lot not to mention my hx35 is Boostin 45 psi then I let out cause my studs ain't in and the truck is only 100 degrees hotter. But yea if your not in to havin the baddest truck the get 5x.012s and your choice of dv's. And a he351 non electrical would be a good cheap budget set up.

Theres no such thing as a 351 that's not electrical. You are probably thinking non vgt exhaust housing.

To the op, if you want a 351, buy any 351 off of an 04.5 or newer 5.9 cummins. The shaft breaking in an hx40 is mostly here say. Just don't bark it, any turbo is going to break if you bark it much. I've had a 351 on my truck, and pushed it to almost 50 psi everytime I drove it. Definitely the strongest turbo I've had experience with. You just have to make an intercooler tube, plug the solenoid hole, and work with the wastegate and down pipe and it fits.
Ncfirefighter has had a lot of experience with the 351 as well. I'm sure he can answer absolutely any question you have about using one.

My buddy has a set of new 5x14's that he will trade me for some parts I have so for money reasons this is the way I will go. Having said that where should I go with the turbo, now that I dont have to buy injectors I dont mind spending more on a good turbo and possibly manifold.
I'd say a 3 piece manifold and nothing smaller than a 62mm turbo

:hehe: Oh man, you make me sound so much smarter than I am.

If you only tow light once in a while you could go a little bigger on the turbo and get more out of those injectors. 63/68/12 gated would be a good choice in my opinion if you can spend the money. Should support 500hp very well.

As far as the he351 I'm a huge fan, to me it's the best of the stock turbos, and for around 450hp or less it is a great value. It's capable of a little over 500hp but that's pushing it. So if you're wanting more than 450 out of a single I'd do something else. Now if you think twins might be in your future, that's a different story. :peelout
I am going to try and revive this thread hopefully! So this is what I have done so far motor is still out of truck not proving to be easy on coming up with the additional couple grand I still need to finish. DFI 5x.014 sac, 3 piece manifold (T3), arp's, 4k gsk w/valve springs done. I think I will be around the 500hp area so still need help on which turbo, I would like something with a wastegate and since I have already spent a ridiculous amount of money I figure what is another $1500. Oh yeah truck is standard if I didnt already mention. Thanks
