With the upcoming million mile rebuild money is going to be tight. Looking at injectors, and that's a big hit.

Thinking I'm probably only going to be able to afford half the injectors now, and other half in a month or two.

Is there a way to see what an Injectors "health" is? Just flow them and use the 3 closest flowing injectors?

Do EGT temps give any clue of their health?


What's the common way to diagnose and single out a bad injector?

Seeing as how injectors failing seem to be an engine killer, are there any early warning signs or any sensors I can add to help forsee it coming before it does damage?

The best way to do a health check on injectors is to pull them and send them into a reputable shop and have them bench tested. Probably not worth the cost to test if they already have a lot of miles on them or were remans to begin with. Most would not risk marginal injectors on an expensive build. Warning signs of failing injectors include excessive black smoke, white smoke, hard starting, stalling, knocking and leaking diesel down into the crankcase - making your (diluted) oil level go up on the dip stick.

Filtration is key to injector life. The OEM filtration system is inadequate and should me upgraded to a 2-3 micron setup. Try Injectors Direct for brand new Bosch OEM injectors with all the latest improvements. For oversize injectors, check out BBI. Avoid remans if at all possible with the exception of BBI.

I highly recommend replacing all Injectors at the same time.
Unless you have a serious issue at the very moment, and no other vehicles... Then just save your $$ until you can purchase a full set of NEW injectors.
