Well I finally got all my components delivered and installed. Thank goodness I had a hangar at work where I could install all these goodies or else this would have been a very painfully wet and cold Alaska stereo install.

Kenwood DNX 8120 Nav unit
Factory Laramie Navigation radio/dash trim
Infinity 6.5" component speakers in front door with tweeters in the dash speaker location
Infinity 6.5" 2-way speakers in rear door
Speakers powered by Alpine PDX-5 5channel amp which is mounted under the driver's seat
Alpine type S 10" subwoofer:headbang:
What an improvement over the stock base system... I am in love with this stereo system, and the Kenwood unit is simply amazing. Check it out on Youtube.

I can't post pictures for some damn reason, always says I am exceeding my file limit even though I am not:banghead:

It's a shame cause this is a damn fine looking head unit
Thats the setup i want to install in my truck, can you add a reverce camera to that one aswell?
Yes, you can add a rear camera. I need to do this since it is a pain to reverse with a canopy on my truck:doh: It would be nice too for hooking-up trailers.

Another slick feature is that it has two "buttons" on the touchscreen in the menu( to the left in the screenshot "EXT SW") that allows you to send a signal to any electronic device such as a garage door, remote lights, foglight relay, etc. Had it about a month now and just love it. Get the iphone/ipod connection cable.

The bluetooth works very for phone calls.
very cool, I just saw a video on you tube where they guy used one of those buttons to control his exhaust valves, what about the steering wheel controls do those still work?
I saw that video too of the z06, very cool indeed. I need to buy some more accessories so I can utilize that function:$:

My truck does not have steering wheel controls so I am not sure, however the deck does have a steering wheel wire in the harness. The unit comes with a remote, so I wasn't too concerned with not having this function, but I bet it would be nice.

Note: when installing, do not waste money on an adaptor wiring harness from crutchfield or the like. They wanted $70 for an adapter. This was supposed to keep the function of the timed power after the key was removed, however it still works w/out this. I bypassed the factory speaker wiring harness and ran my own heavier gauge wire to the amp and then to the speakers.

I'd be happy to help with any install purchasing questions if you plan to do it yourself. It is very straight forward once you have all the parts in order.

That looks sweet.Do you have it wired so you can watch DVDs and not have to engage the parking brake? If so how did you do it?
Bypassing the safety feature is easy. Simply ground the wire that would be connected to the parking brake switch.
Looks good, Is there any options for a bigger head unit, to fill the area a little more, or is that as big as they make..
How hard are the door panels to remove?

I have removed a number of door panels in my day and these are likely the easiest. I'll take some photos and make some directions this evening.

I would recommend the infinity reference speakers. I have always been impressed with infinity speakers in all the cars I have owned and known. I used components in the front so I could have tweeters in the dash... sounds so balanced and crisp compared to stock(non infinity).
