there sits a '08 Ram 2500 Big Horn/6.7/ auto/loaded out in Patriot Blue two tone paint. I had to fight like hell to get them to the $34K price we agreed on 6 weeks ago. I finally got the deal I wanted, but it was too late to sign the papers. They insisted I drive this truck home and come back tomorrow to sign the deal. I really like the truck, but I'm seriously considering backing out or switching to a 1500 Hemi. Something just don't feel right. Is it pre-buyer's remorse? I need some words of wisdom before tomorrow morning.

I forgot to mention that it had a CEL on when I got in it to test drive it, but they had just jumped it off because of dead batteries.:w:

Don't be afraid of it. These engines are beasts! I do not regret buying my 6.7 one bit.

A hemi would be the biggest mistake you could make.

Hemi=Horrible. Dont buy that thing man, no gas burner could ever amount to a diesel. I'll tell ya straight, I'm not a big fan of the 6.7, but compared to a hemi, there is no comparison:thumbsup

pull the code. See which one taht you have. You can do it with the ingitiion on and off three times trick to read the code. That could be a sign that that is a lemon. I think I would shop around a little bit more.

Obivously you've never had a cummins before. You will never get the longevity out of a hemi as you would a cummins.

Rental,

My parents and I were partners in a motor vehicle dealership business. I am out of the business now due to my transport company.

My question is, "what event made you feel uneasy?" Fill me in and I will give you my input. I even had a tough time with some big car stores when buying wholesale units. You can pm or quote me. I will respond promptly.

Darrell...I don't really know what has me so uneasy. It was the normal dealer run around for four hours. You know, talk to the salesman, then he disappears for an hour. I was ready to leave at 8:00 last night, and I know my son wanted to go home, but they strung us along until 10:30 before letting us go. I understand that stuff, so I don't think that's the hold up. I work, and make a decent income, but I'm also a disabled vet, and my VA disability increased dramatically yesterday (doubled my monthly income) and if I buy the truck, I will still have more money left over at the end of the month than ever before. I am a bit nervous not knowing how much longer I can work, though, I could be able to go for another ten years, and then again I might have to medically retire next week...but that could happen to anyone. All in all, I'm a major tightwad, and really hate :$::$:

I should just man-up and buy the damn thing already, huh? I've only been dreaming about this truck for six months.

I am a frugal tightwad myself also and only 35 years old. The truck in the picture was bought brand new only because I was doing long haul hotshot work, but I realized now I could have gotten a good used one and saved a bundle. If I were you, I would look for a 1 owner used Dodge Diesel first instead of buying a new truck. Your only paying for a depreciating bunch of nuts and bolts looking at things from a financial view. On the other hand, if you like the truck and can afford it even if not working, go for the sale. I personally don't play those games with people. I am cut and dry and upfront which actually works better in the long term. I just ask "yes" questions then close the deal.

If you decide on a used Cummins, let me know. I have a friend of mine Greg who is a wholesaler for a Dodge Dealership that I bought units from. He always has some good trucks and I actually can trust him on his word. Let me know if I can help you in anyway.

Darrell..I wish I had met you a month ago...when I was in Austin visiting the in-laws...lol!

I have been looking at used units, but the average seems to be $25K for a '05-'06 with 50K-100K on the clock. I know that's not a lot of mileage on these trucks, and the 5.9L is the better engine, but it just didn't make sense to buy used. I guess I figured if you're gonna spend 25, why not spend 35 and get brand new. Now I'm thinking I should take it back and keep looking at used. Hell...who knows? I'll probably figure it out when they call to tell me the papers are ready to be signed, and make a decision on the way to the stealership.
