Alright, if all goes well tomorrow, i'll be the proud owner of a Patriot Blue 07.5 6.7L CTD. QC, 4x4, 6-speed Auto, SLT Big Horn Edition, Short Bed with only 17K miles on it. And I have a couple of questions.

1) What kinda MPG can I realistically expect from it? I don't tow anything and I can kep my foot out of it if I try hard enough.

2) I hear that the MP-8, DPF delete, another stacked programmer, egr block off, inake, and all of that help with MPG, but I don't have that kind of money. I don't even feel like spending the 400-500 bucks on the MP-8 (which i hear has the most effect on MPG). SO can anyone let me know budget/ghetto ways to maximize my MPG's??

3) This one may come off as a little odd sounding, but...anyone have an idea of what this truck would run in the 1/4mile stock? I'd like to have a slight idea.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who helps out with my questions. Wish me luck on getting the truck tomorrow! :thumbsup

I would suggest spending the rest of tonight reading the entire 6.7L portion of this web site.

Like the others said. I would really reconsider getting a 6.7L. I filed with my state attorney general last Thursday for the lemon law. Eight times at the dealer since Nov 28th with CELs. Problems started at 2500 miles and have continued up to 12000 miles. Great truck ,great motor, the emissions junk on these motors are all the problems.

Sounds like a nice truck btw...

I haven't had any emissions related problems with mine yet, but I've been on this site almost everyday since I bought the truck learning about it. Also I don't drive it much, I just rolled 10,000 miles on her last night.

The only thing, that I'm noticing now is the Exhaust Brake is beginning to disengage around 1600 rpm's like everyone else has been complaining about, so my problems are just beginning. I'm determined not to bring it in just yet, I'm not crazy about the idea of the dealership drilling a hole in the side of my turbo without taking it off the truck. It's just a bandaid for a bigger problem. Also I've read that they are reflashing the trucks to tune them down to help with the emissions problems.

Hope this helps your decision. If I could do it all over again, I would have a 5.9 in the driveway.

If you can't afford the MODs you probably can't afford the $170 bucks to fill up and run for 450 miles on a tank with the truck empty. Around town and mixed is 13.5 MPG and on the highway it's about 16 to 18 unloaded. I have got as much as 20 to 22 with a small load but that was few and far between. This truck has lots of power and drinks lots of fuel.

wow I am amazed by all the people trying to talk this guy out of his decision. Dude these trucks rock. Yeah there is some problems but nothing to bad. If you really dont plan on spending any money on it for mods. Just really plan on keeping your foot out of it in the city and really plan on doing between 55-70 on the highway for your best mileage. I would try to find out why the previous owner traded it in or if it was a lemon. All in all these motors are great. My dad has a 5.9 with alot of money in it. And he is constantly asking to trade for mine. Just my .02 cents

Simple MPG tips:

Keep it at 65 or less.
Keep tire pressure up
Roll on the throttle and roll off the throttle.
You will need to get on it every once in a while to keep her cleaned out (exhaust wise)
Dont just city drive. Get her up to 45-50 MPH for at least 15 mins every so often.

I wouldnt expect much more then a 14 MPG average. If you get better thats a bonus.

Best Of Luck with the truck! I love mine!

I agree with Compcowboy I get around 14 to 16 city depending on how hard I pull out. I absolutely love the truck and I really have not had too many problems with it. I am scheduled for a new turbo at 8,700 miles but that is because of the emissions crap that was forced on all of us. I am going to keep mine stock until the warranty is up and then may work on the egr and dpf delete. By far this is the most powerful truck I have ever owned. Don't be afraid of all the problems as they will eventually be fixed by the manufacturers or there going to buy back a whole lot of vehicles.

gogop66, I can "AFFORD" mods for the truck. But I just don't feel like spending that much on parts at the moment. I just turned 20, I'm saving for a house, I'm a full time student, and i work 7 days a week. So, though I can justify spending money on the truck and the diesel for it, I just can't do the same for mods. Even if they do help out in the long run. Maybe eventually though...after the house. I'll actually probably break down and atleast do a DPF delete+exhaust. I can usually justify exhaust because you get performance/MPG/sound/and even looks. How much would that alond help me out MPG wise?

mahdey, I did a carfax report and it had every little detail of the truck history. The only thing I saw was something about a CEL not coming on if an 02 sensor failed? and they took it in to be serviced.

To everyone else...is the 6.7L really THAT bad? are there actually serious problems with it? or just little codes here and there?

No, it's great. I'd get one in a heartbeat but, the first thing I would do is have the DPF and EGR taken off. By far that is the mod that needs to be done if no other mods are done. I loved the ones I drove, just need to take that trash off first and it should eliminate all codes.

there are more than a few on here who have repeatedly had to leave their trucks at the dealership for weeks on end. If you don't take care of the egr/dpf/emissions/turbo/exhaust/o2sensor codes, the truck will go into limp mode and you will not be going. The 07.5 was the worst of them all, because the bugs had not been worked out yet. If you believe that the manufacturer is going to fix all of the problems with this rig, you're naive. They will go back to producing the 5.9L before they take care of all of this trucks problems. It would be a financial disaster for them to even attempt it. This is why I made the decision last week to stop looking at the 2500 CTD and start looking at the 1500/2500 Hemi. I know it's not the diesel that I wanted, but I need new for the warranty and I ain't about to buy a V-block diesel engine. Think it over...it's a ticking time-bomb.

The 02 sensor deal was a part of a recall.

I'm not sure how much CarFax will show in terms of service history or even if the the truck was one of those 'buyback' deals... I read somewhere that the buyback deals are often done to prevent the VIN from coming up as a lemon but I don't know how the buyback gets pegged against the VIN or what will show up in CarFax.

I purchased a new 07.5 and haven't had any issues with it yet but it doesn't have very many miles on it; after learning more about the truck, the various issues others are having and what some of the adolescent adults out there subject these trucks to I wouldn't touch one sitting on a used lot.

I would take my chances on a new 08 though.

well, I still want the truck, regardless of all the problems. But I have one more question. What does the "Big Horn Edition" consist of?

I don't know the whole package but I think it consists of sliding rear window, power driver seat, mini console, leather wrapped steering wheel, certain tires, and various other small things. As long as it's not a "work" edition you will have most of the conveniences. You should strongly consider DPF/EGR Delete though. Sound like a salesman yet?

To answer the other question in your first post my truck ran 15.21 with only 600 miles on it and an AFE CAI,no other mods. It was less than a month old.

Oh, and mine has been problem free with over 20K on it now. It will be a year old August 2nd.

One word of advice would be to see where your local regulations stand on emissions checks and what might be pending for the future - I would recommend that if you remove the EGR and DPF and least make sure that they are working correctly so that if you end having to put that stuff back on to pass an emissions check there is a reasonably good chance that it will still work, otherwise if you remove a broken DPF or EGR and then the truck goes out of warranty and then you have to have an emissions test you might be out a few more dollars to get the emissions equipment repaired.

The BigHorn edition has been best described as a "set of miscellaneous add on options"

well guys, the problems with the 6.7L didn't change my mind...the dealership did. I went up there today with my trade in (2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 w/24K miles on it. Blue Book Value for trade in= $14,600) The salesman I was talking to was real nice, he was working with me pretty good, everything seemed like it was going well. Until he said "let me go tell the trade-in manager to go take a look at your car"

a couple minutes went by and the guy came out of his office and was like

"you gotta trade in?"

--"yea"

"What kinda car is it?"

--"05 Dodge Neon SRT-4"

"How many miles?"

---"24,000"

"how much you wont fur it?"

--"Blue Book, which is $14,600"

"nah, I caint do that"

--"...well how much can you give me for it?"

"hmmm, $10,000"

--"um, i owe $13,500 on it so I can't do that"

"well, that's all i can do, y'all have a nice day"

He didn't even look at the car!! The salesman I was with came around the corner and was like "so?". I told him what happened and he said "well if you sell that car, come back and see us" I was like "no thank you" and left. I've been to 2 other dealerships who BOTH offered me $15K

PS:This was at Rockwall Ford in Rockwall TX
