For years I've run my truck without boost and pyro. I've always run it loaded full throttle up the hills around here loaded by the temp guage.
Well, I've installed the tach, boost and pyro. Last weekend I ran up the hill as usual with a couple thousand pounds less than normal. On the Sunset Point grade, about 2/3 of the way up, I was at 22lbs of boost and 1400F! I had to back out of the throttle and slow down up the hill. The next big grades were the same.
Lord only knows what kinds of EGT I was hitting for all these years in the past where I just ran the hill at speed and full throttle. (I could damn near bury the needle on my pyro in a few seconds last weekend.)
235,000 miles of heavy hauling in the past with no troubles. Makes me think I should remove the pyro! (The probe is preturbo, btw.):confused013:

The Camper is 1700lbs and the trailer is 2000+ empty. I usually have about 1600 lbs in the trailer. Last trip I only had about 600 in it. (only had one dirt bike and very little in pit gear/tools.)

When I ran it empty with out the camper on, I got 18lbs boost and a max of 1150F the week before.

I have run my 1990 w/o a pyrometer for yeras. I don't tow anything and have another truck which to compare notes with.

I know what has to be done to get things too hot.

I can relate to this story!

I installed a pyro on my 6.9 non turbo Ford after not having one for years. It's a good thing I didn't have a turbo because I buried the pyro easily the first time I took ol' girl up the canyon with a small load  If it was dark outside I'll bet i could have seen the exhaust manifolds glowing!

If you had a turbo It wouldn't have buried the pyro.

I towed from the southern border of Iowa to the northern border at 1000-1100 degrees POST TURBO, with my 32 ft 5'er loaded heavy a few years back.:confused013: Everything is fine as far as I know.
