If you all can access either of these threads.......

Just spent from about the last week of Aug. to just about Thanksgiving converting my 01 Diesel with 148K on the clock and into which I had maybe 5.5K bucks, to 4WD. Bought a poorly running 96 V10 automatic (wrong ratio axles) and a rolling frame (too short WB) that had correct axles, transfer case, and fuel tank with sender only tank module

Ended up using the rotors (which I turned) off the 96 front axle on the 98/9 axle out of the rolling frame, replaced knucke U joints, driver side seal, ball joints, and pretty much all steering linkage

the 96 mostly gave up the frame, and I ended up using it's transfer case (auto) by swapping the input shaft. I also ended up needing the hood and grill because i'm stupid. After I'd gotten the new truck running but no brakes, I was trying to move it---with the parking brake--and tapped my tower, breaking the grill and damaging the hood. It could have been fixed.

the 98/9 transfer case off the rolling frame had a shifting problem, so I pirated the stick input shaft out of it and install that into the 96 automatic transfer case, converted my 5 speed to 4WD

Installed a FASS pump I had bought, removed my in-tank pump and installed the non pump tank module out of the rolling frame.

Long LONG hard project for an aging 74 year old. I could have done NONE of it without the outdoor 2 post (I have no shop) and the little Farmall 100 with the front loader and backhow.

I'm pretty much done but the "weather hit." I still need to double check toe and the front end, because it wanders a little and cannot figure why. My neighbor wiggled the wheel while I looked for play, and cannot find ANY, including the steering box. Steering links and track bar are all Moog "problem solver" and visibly heavier than OEM. Got rid of the "Y" steering and now have a "real" tie rod.

The reason? I've looked for a 4WD for over a year, and will NOT give up either the big cab or 8ft bed. I cannot find one with less than 200K for less than 25--30 grand. I had 5.5K into my 2WD, spend 1000 on the donor + 300 (a steal) on the rolling frame, and maybe 1K or a bit more on parts.

My truck is no beauty queen but it's completely rust free, and tight no leak cab. Plus "I know what I have."

I ordered and received a solenoid valve, still waiting on hose ends---to get rid of the transfer case actuator control valve and convert the vacuum axle to manually controlled vacuum.

I was actually putting the front bumper back on AFTER the snow/ cold hit.

Been REALLY cold and some snow starting about Thanksgiving. Been a real pleasure being able to make use of the old girl, which, "as a one wheel drive" LOL was utterly useless on slick roads in previous years
