Help! I jumped into my 04 dually this morning and when I got to the stop sign I noticed the Idle was very high in gear(I really had to press hard on the brake) Idles at 750 in park but idles up high in gear. I checked throttle, kickdown etc all were ok not binding or anything. I checked for codes and there were none does anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance:beer:beer

About 700 rpm in drive, it really "loads up" the converter If I shift it into neutral the engine flares to about 1500 rpm if this is any help

We have a 04 6-speed that idles high(1100)till you mash on the brakes good. Checked for codes, but everything seems to be fine as well. It has been over 30,000miles since it started, and has no probs. My buddy has a 05 with an Auto, and his did what yours is doing, turned out to be an injector issue, took it in three times to have them fix it. they ended up Afro-Engineering a idler reducer gizmo to the Cruise control switch...hit the off, down she goes.....and a 5-star dealer did this!!!

DODGES HAVE A HIGH IDLE FEATURE THAT CAN BE ENABLED, AND IT WORKS THROUGH THE CRUISE CONTROL, HIS MAY BE ENABLED, AND WHEN HE TURNS THE CRUIS OFF, IT TURNS THE HIGH IDLE OFF... :thumbsup

No the high idle feature i dont think is the problem. I turned the cruise off, same thing. I went out last night and noticed if i mash the accelerator pedal down it doesnt go anywhere until the truck is going about 10-15 mph then it pulls hard. The only mod it has is a Banks sixgun w/speedloader which came with the truck. If I get time I'll disable it and see if that might have something to do with it.

Well I called Banks and was told how to isolate programmer from vehicle but after doing that there was no difference, truck still wants to push me through the stop sign! I'm going to hook up scanner Tue. or Wed. and see if I can get a clue as to whats going on. I'm starting to wonder if I may be experiencing a torque converter failure??? Truck only has 56k on it with ONLY the Banks mod to it.....:ah:

i have something of the same issue with my 6 speed going on. sometimes when i come to a stop and push in the clutch the idle speed will stay any where from 950 to 1250 rpms. i can hold on the brake real tight and ease the clutch out to put a load on the engine and then it will return to normal idle. I am almost sure that it is the FCA sticking and causing these issues. i am planning to replace mine in the next week or so and i will update when i find out more information.

I checked truck out again today, I'm really starting to think I've got a bad torque converter. I can't "power brake" engine at all but as it finally goes it pulls good. Who makes a decent torque converter that is stronger than stock and approx how much? thanks:CRY:

If thats the case, it will cancel when he activates the brake lamps:T:

Truck is still under powertrain warranty. How strong do Dealers adhere to mods to the vehicle? All is stock except for Banks sixgun which I understand is pretty mild compared to most(came with truck):beer

If your going to get an aftermarket tc. Check with Farmboysdiesel. He has good deals on them.

Good luck!

Ya know I had the same problem...push in the clutch with the motor warm at any speed up to 80mph and the rpms would shoot up to about 1500-1700 for a few seconds then return to normal. Really makes it seem like you can't drive a stick and people go "blah blah blah can't drive" lol! Oh well. Sorry bout the hi-jack.

Did you come up with any codes yet? And from I hear stealerships are pretty tough about the mods to these trucks. But you could always bribe....... Or if they say "Oh it's such-n-such and we can't do it because of the Banks" then you get a free diagnose. BTW the Banks is not a very good programmer IMO. Lots of problems have been caused by them. Just FYI, not trashin your stuff!

you have a bad torque converter -- just fixed one last week. if you can monitor engine load on a scanner, when you put it in gear the engine load will increase drastically.

Thanks! Thats the conclusion I came to. I have an appointment next week to bring it in to the dealer, the advisor told me its under the powertrain warranty so I'll let them do that for now and save up for A converter and trans down the road.:beer

Hi guys, It's been a while, my truck was at the dealer for three long weeks. They told me it was a trans problem not a torque converter but the day i was to pick it up they told me they had to order a new cooler then it was a cooler hose etc... the list went on but guess what? on the invoice I noticed a torque converter charged out with a core return. The truck does run good now it doesn't "push" me through the stop sign anymore and I'm glad to have it back!! Also one more thing, I had a minor leak at the front diff. and they replaced the whole housing under warranty the only problem was I paid to have the balljoints replaced. I saw them myself and they were pretty bad with only 57K on truck! I think i've heard this story before anyway thanks to everybody for all the input...:thumbsup:beer
