Regarding the EVIC idle time, what is the definition of idling? When the truck is in neutral or park? Sitting in traffic (stopped) with transmission in D, is that idle or driving time?

Thanks in advance.

Best I can tell with my OBDII reader, it is exactly as it sounds: "Idle time". Thus anytime the engine is handing out at idle. Be it in a parking lot or in traffic with your foot on the brake.

My assumption has been that the computer starts counting it as "idle time" any time the EVIC instant mileage changes from a number to two dashes (--).

My guess is idle time starts whenever MPH = 0.

What is an ideal idle time to drive time ratio?
Not sure how accurate it is, but I read on here at one time that idle hours should not be over 10% of total hours.

I'm currently at 69 idle hours, 908 drive hours for a total of 977 hours.

69/977 = 7.06%

Here to report that after my flash on the 3rd, my OBDII reader shows IDLE_TIME --:-- and RUN_TIME 67:00. This kinda killed my experiment :/

I have 60 hours of run time and 7 hours idling, so says the truck.

Now I remember seeing the IDLE_TIME move up while sitting in traffic, at a stop light, and when I first start in the morning. Thus was my assumption that when the engine is at idle and while moving 0 mph, it counts as idle time.

No hidden message here folks! Idle time == idle time.

I don't think mine works. I have 1550 run time 0 idle time. Granted my truck doesn't idle much but there have been some cold days in the last 60k that I never turned it off.
There was a recent post that a guy posted titled 10,000 mile update. (very recent) He posted a pic of his evic and it had numerous drive hours and 0 idle hours. When I saw the post and the pic of his evic I thought it was strange. :confused013:

Hmmm I'm at 8.7%. I thought for sure I'd be higher as much as my truck idles. Obviously it doesn't idle as much as i thought.
