Well, my truck had #1 injector go out. Rather than paying my mechanic 1K to do the work, I figured I could do it myself. Everything went smooth, but when I removed the bad injector, a little bit of oil dripped into the hole where the injector goes!! Is this bad?!?! I currently have some shop towels stuffed into the hole, and around it soaking up any other oil, and will keep it this way till tomorrow when I can work on it during the daylight!!

You'll be okay mate. I had a little bit of oil go down there too and all I did was dry the hole with shop towels and blow some air down there. Cleanliness is key with injectors. Good luck I've done them twice now and never had any problem. Follow the torque specs too.

Thanks man......that's what I want to hear!!! I will clean it out as best I can before installing the new injector!!!
After I changed all six of mine it hazed white for a good 5 or 10 minutes. Scared me at first but it cleared up.
Until you do injectors on a 7.3, ypu don't know what "oil in cylinders" means haha...pull off one and it dumps a quart in...a few drops in there won't hurt...hell I've changed em out in the pouring rain before...just make sure new injector is clean and that you oil the o ring with some oil from a rocker arm...

Also, who the hell charges a grand to change one 5.9 cr injector? If that's the going rate we need to go up on our prices haha

Ha ha....those are some rough conditions!!! I heard to use petroleum jelly on the O-Rings.....
If it's a brand new motor, I'll use a lil but of the new engine oil in a cap to smear on...if it's just injectors, I use what's already on top of the head
A couple drops of oil is not a problem I do injectors on the 8.3L cummins in the CNH combines and never have a problem... Just follow torque specs.... Injector hole goes straight to cylinder just keep dirt out
