Heres the scoop, Ran my test got everything into the reactor, let it mix for 3 hours then let it settle for another 15 hours. I then went to drain off the glycerin and nothing, there was none. Just kind of dark oil?????

I dont have a clue on what to do next....I put a small amount in a mason jar and dropped a few drops of phenol red and the mix turned bright pink.

Should I continue to let it settle or mix it some more?????

any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

i think that we have a wasted 60 gallons of bio. Everything gelled very bad, I heated the so called biodiesel and it bubbled and foamed extremely bad. I have come to a conclusion that I think there was a ton of water in some of the oil. Of course I didnt heat the oil prior to putting it into the reactor.

Also, I tried putting some in my drying tank and it is nasty Gel crap.

So we scrapped it and are going to start another batch tonight.

Maybe you could take a scoop of that "bio-gel" and scoop some off into your tank and use it as solid fuel? like a rocket?

just kidding....but I do hope you get the kinks out and get your bio processing up and running. You know I couldn't pass up such a tempting opportunity.:rof
:lol3:

Good luck and don't let a bad batch get you down!!!

On a more serious note, maybe you could try with smaller batches until you get it all worked out. 60 gallons is a lot of waste oil to be throwing away.

Did you heat your oil before adding methanol lye mix ? I have been making it for 2 yrs and all ways have had a good reaction. The best advice I can give is use a good quality oil I use the same oil to make bio that I run in the truck It looks almost like new oil.I cold filter it to remove all the solid oil-lard.I heat the oil to 130 to 140 and add methanol mix. Then mix for 2 hours.let settle for at least 2hrs most times over night then drain glycerin. I drain off the the pump and lines when I let it settle and put that in a quart jar then you can see what you have and you should see the glycerin star dropping out in a few minutes.I have let a mix of glycerin and bio about 50 -50 in a bucket for a week and it will keep reacting and make a lot of glycerin do not know why but it does.
