Can't tell the difference between the two from reading the Hypertech website. What is the major difference? What power levels does the Econ have? It's not listed on the matrix. Any help would be great. Looking for a little more power and MPGs on a stock exhausted truck. Also safe power towing my toy hauler. Thanks,

I think the econ doesn't have the stage 3 hp increase the maxx does. I have the maxx and it works pretty good, mpg's up 3+ and power is good but not like the guys with the xrt and smarty. I still have my stock exhaust and haven't had many problems with the programmer on.

I thought the econ was setup for economy only , no power added.

should be
stage 1 = 26hp
stage 2 = 59hp

If you are thinking of buying one of the two get the MAX ENERGY. I ran one for 14,000 miles with DPF and MP-8 and loved it...

I know you're running stock exhaust (DPF, EGR, etc...)...But are you considering running "unrestricted" anytime soon?

Not sure if I'm going to run unrestricted anytime soon. Maybe if anyone produces a reliable code free EGR delete and DPF delete I might. I really don't need big HP/TQ right now. Just some help towing and MPGs.

Would it be better to get an MP-8 or Hypertec Maxx to start off?

Well, H&S Performance's XRT is one of the most reliable, and code-free units on the market for DPF and EGR removal.

I have had 0 problems with mine, and love it! The power is unreal, yet very manageable to drive everyday.

I've been helping them test their 175hp tune, and let me tell you...it is a true monster...and adding power and modding your truck can be very addicting! LOL

I would honestly suggest starting off with the XRT...When I bought my stuff...I purchased everything all at once, and installed everything at one time.

I installed H&S complete EGR & cooler delete kit, 5" Turbo-Back straight-pipe (TBE), AFE Mega-Cannon II cold-air-intake (CAI), and my H&S XRT tuner on 120 (highest tune available at that time), and my Quadzilla Boost Fooler.

I have never looked back, and never gotten the fuel-mileage I get now! I'm getting 15 or so around town and between 18-21 highway!

Which, for a huge truck like mine is pretty impressive. I jumped over 5 MPG's in town, and 5+ on the highway!

I would suggest just starting off with this setup, b/c you will eventually work your way into it, like alot of folks that I've seen on here do.

I've seen alot of folks spend thousands and thousands on stuff, that they now store in a box in their garage b/c they don't use it, or something better came out...

I'm not trying to deter you away from your choice, just trying to give you a bit of advice where I've seen many others make mistakes.

If you choose to still go between your originals go with the Hypertech MaxxEnergy AND Diablo-Sport Extreme Power Puck (same thing as MP-8, but cheaper and just as good a product).

Thanks JP...

Ask your wife if you can lift your truck, IF you promise to get you some N-Fab's?

She might go for it? You never know? LOL

You could go with some Skyjacker leveling kits and get some 35" BFG Mud-Terrain KM2's for your stockers, like my dad did...And his turned out looking SWEET!

Already tried that man no luck. Maybe that will change after the lil girl gets here. I am going to do the 35" KM2'S after these tire wear out. A buddy of mine got some the other day and they look sweet!

They sure do! My dad got his, and I was a little leary at first, but when we came rollin' up I was like, "DAMN! That turned out awesome, huh?" And he was like, "Yep...I like 'em."

I recommend them, they are quiet, the ride smooth as can be, and they last as long as you keep 'em rotated and balanced, and properly inflated.

Maybe one day you can get 'er on up there...Just inadvertantly try to get your wife to agree, like buy her a new SUV, or something? Say it's "The family vehicle"...That way you can get away with driving it if yall go somewhere, instead of your truck...

Thanks for the info sir. I agree that some more research needs to be done on my part. And would like to go straight for the throat, but I'm still in need of my warranty as of now, and the XRT has better chance of making it go away. :) Also, the Hyperteck is $300, and the XRT is $700+, EGR and DPF delete are around $1500. That's alot of doe right now.

Can I ask how much this cost? I am considering doing DPF delete too. Did you need to do any tranny upgrades to handle the additional power? Thanks!

So, far, no tranny upgrades.

I am waiting on my tranny, until I get my twins, injectors, and cp3's...Unless something happens between now and then.

The price was more than reasonable for all of the stuff I ordered.

Call my buddy James @ Rollin' Smoke Diesel, and he should be able to hook you up with whatever you need, for a VERY reasonable price.

Hey MadMav...The XRT is $799...however, you should call James @ Rollin' Smoke, and he can hook you up with a 5" TBE for a really good price to go with that XRT.

Just call him, and tell him that Alabama Mud Machine sent you.

Talking is free...So, why not call? You might be really surprised at the prices?
