The larger turbo isn't needed at that point, it'll have quite a bit of lag with the mild fueling. A better option would be an HE351cw, it flows just as much as an HX40 and will spool faster than the stock HX35.

upgrades

Thinking 4k govenor spring kit 5x.012 injectors and bumping the timing a bit is the hx 40 still to laggy or will the hx35 still be sufficent also 4 in exhaust and # 10 fuel plate

That's about the perfect setup for the HX40, but it'll still be a little laggy. Have you considered making a hybrid? You can use the compressor housing and compressor wheel on the HX35, it'll spool quickly and support a more power than the HX35 without having the lag of the HX40.

:agree2:I've got pretty much the the same mods as you and will be doing the HX40 hybird mod next. I'm aiming for 400 hp and manageable EGTs while retaining as many stock parts as possible.

The hx35 can spool to 35 pounds safely. After that I heard it just starts blowing hot air.. I would go a little higher on the timing. I would say 16.5* to 17* I went with 16.5 and still wish I went up to 17.5.. You won't have to worry about head gasket till after 18
