Hi guys ive owned the truck since April but started it yesterday and truck kicked into high idle and there's a smarty manual in tje glove box. Just seemed weird none of my other stock trucks had high idle. Just wondering if there's a way to tell if it's still running on a tune or not

So, once you tune it with the smarty it enables high idle, however even when you put it back to stock tune high idle stays enabled. It was likely was once tuned, but put back to stock before selling it.

To enable high idle
1. Engine on
2. In park
3. E brake on
4. Turn on cruse control
5. Hit set

The rpms should jump up, use cruse speed control to adjust a few hundred rpms.

As for how to tell? If you truck is deleted, it’s tuned, if it’s not deleted, it could be tuned still. Not sure how to tell, maybe a dealer could tell. Or they could update the each with latest, this would overwrite anything done to it. Or you can pickup a cheap use smarty tuner (or the likes) and use it to flash a stock tune.

An 03 only had a cat...nothing to DELETE with tuning.

You will need a device to install at the obd port...it ahould tell you VIN Locked or cannot communicate

So you can enable high idle manually on a stock tune...is this a one time thing?..and how does it know when to increase?...temperature I assume..I’ve never played with mine but noticed it increase a few times now that the temps are dropping..didnt know this was something that could be altered..thought it was just a stock setting...I too am wondering if my truck has ever had a tune installed...2005 2500

The holy grail of 3rd's are the '03-04 Federal chassis. Not even a cat.
Ca versions had a cat and were detuned for the 47re's left over.

Maybe for states with testing...but you still have an apps and inferior tuning options.

If you have a high idle flash...
Based on temps and time...the truck will high idle, and also if flashed accordinlgly...it will enter a 3cyl idle mde for faster warm ups.

Crap, I was in the 2nd gen forum and didn’t realize it. I hate Tapatalk sometimes, how it mixes all the sections together. There was another guy asking about using a smarty to enable high idle on a 09 too, got me mixed up.

Sorry for the miss direct OP, see what Stormin08 said. I’ll let myself out now :(

Thanks for the info..a little more clear than the previous response I got..so are you saying that if flashed for high idle it will have 2 settings (high/3 cyl)...I read a service bulletin and that’s what it seems to say...and is there a way to activate the 3 cyl mode like there is the normal high idle?..thanks in advance
