Looking at a 09 Quadcab 2wd with long bed and auto.We drive 200 miles a day on the interstate with 3 people and 500 pound in the bed.We make this trip 5 day a week. The truck has 100,000 miles on it and I will keep it for 5 years. What mods are good to improve mpgs?Should I get a full turbo back exhaust or just a DPF delete? How about 3.42 gears and egr delete? What fuel box is best for mpgs?I have about $2500 to spend on mods.Help me build a thrifty interstate cruiser.

I'm currently in the process of doing this myself. The good news is it won't cost you $2,500. You'll NEED 2 things. A programmer and a DPF delete pipe. James at RSD (Rollin Smoke Diesel) can set you up with those. OPTIONAL items would be an EGR and EGR cooler delete kit. An H&S tuner will shut the EGR off but many people take the cooler off to prevent a future EGR cooler leak. The other optional item is the downpipe from the turbo down to your new straight pipe. Many people replace that to cut down on any restrictions or possible future problems with the CAT in the downpipe although James told me it's not a big worry. A third optional item would be a head stud kit to prevent future head gasket failure. Use a low power tune and some discretion with the go pedal and you probably won't need this but it's relatively cheap insurance.

3.42 gears are awesome for mileage from what I hear. A gearvendors would be more than 2500 but it gives an extra overdrive to help

I get the best mpg keeping the RPM below 2000 RPM. I got a 1.5-2 mpg increase by installing a tonneau cover. This is the second truck I've had with a tonneau cover and they really work to increase the mpg. They don't help out much in city driving but out on the highway is where they really help. A 10% increase in fuel economy is about correct.

Your going to lose a few hundred pounds doing the down pipe, DPF delete, and EGR/cooler. Gained 100km to a half tank just doing that.

H&S tuner is great, don't get the pillar mount though, it's off color, and is crappy plastic, I think Geno's garage has the SRT 10 pillar for cheaper than H&S and it's a OEM piece. Just need adapter.

I put in the XX-fuel filter, just in case for the injectors

For mounting, I installed the overhead mount. It matched my tan plastic just fine.

007MegaRam - I just saw the XX-fuel filter kit installed. When I first saw the funny shaped mounting bracket (before installation), I wondered why they made such a funny design. But after its up there, it looks logical.

Its amazing how much weight we paid for and just have to pull off. I can't believe the pile we are building in the garage floor.

Nice to meet you StarGeezer, the stock replacement cost for all that scrap is probably 5-10Gs! I wish I could find some sucker that needed all that pollution control:hehe:.

I was looking at that overhead console setup, now I'm thinking that might 'ave been good. If I'm smoking with the window down n' it's snowing my mini max might be getting moisture.

And yeah, that fuel bracket is really practical, I left the stock element in for an extra week just to make sure there was no dirt in the line. And I rock guarded it before install.

Supposed to be high flow.
