I'm sure that there has been a discussion on this topic before but, how much hp can my stock '06 48RE if I change out the valve body and the torque converter? I'd upgrade it to an aftermarket transmission, but like a lot of guys on here, I can't afford to do that.:confused013:

well the 68's can handle more than a 47re right?
And there are plenty of the 47re running 500+ with converter and vb so.....

I was told that with a VB and TQ they would be good for 500hp:confused013:

Once you replace the Torque Converter and Valve Body, the 48RE can handle around 550hp and no more, after that you will want to replace your input shaft. If you have anymore questions feel free to PM ME

I have seen some trucks with 300k and all they have done was replaced the TC. You should be fine, all you need to do is when you drop you transmission pan, I would see how much metal and clutch material you have. If you have driven the piss out of it, you might want to go in and check a little further and look for any shaft wear, clutch wear, etc.
