The 47RE in my 12V seems to be in generally good shape. The only thing I've noticed about it is like 0.1% of the time the first time moving forward with moderate throttle when its cold out it shudders just for a second then takes right off. The truck it totally stock except for a 4" exhaust. The tranny is a factory Mopar with about 115k miles on it. What will it be capable of holding with a BD valvebody and BD converter? Once I'm confident the trans can take it I want to turn up the fuel and boost. I don't race and I hardly ever tow anything, mostly just a daily driver. I don't need to go super-fast just want it to go from really slow to moderately quick. Also what would the value of these two parts used in good condition be?

I have read in the neiborhood of 450-600 depending on how you drive and if your not going to abuse the hell out of it theres youranswer.
The answer to your shudder problem is convertor drain back. When you start it to warm up put it in neutral and the convertor will fill back up with fluid, they dont charge in park and with the bd vb you shouldnt have to do the neutral trick, most aftermarket vb charge in park. Hope this helps ya

Is that 450-600 hp or ft-lbs? If thats hp than thats plenty to take what I want. I generally drive like a grandpa too so this might work out.

I had guessed the converter draining was the problem but its good to hear some confirmation. I've been experimenting with idling in neutral to warm it up and it always works but the truck does it so little no matter what its hard to make a correlation.

The other thing my truck does is jolt hard when shifting from park, neutral, or reverse into drive. Its enough to chirp the tires just a little on wet pavement. Idle is about 700rpm in gear so not real high. Is this a sign of poor transmission health or pretty normal?

Doesn't sound normal to me at all for any car, unless you are making a billion hp at 700 rpm :D

:drool2::drool2::drool2::drool2: mmmm, a billion hp, what i could do with that:hehe:

im doing the same trans parts to my truck right now, and plan on making in the area of 400-450hp. i used a dtt valve body kit and saved a ton of money putting it in myself, and going with a dtt converter to match it. at that hp i really dont think you would need a triple disc converter, unless your planning on going bigger later. you can save about half on a good single disc and it will hold that power fine, and some converter builders will upgrade your single to a triple for the difference in price later. and with the money savings off the triple get a billet input shaft for safe mind.

So I bought the single disk BD Converter and BD valvebody along with a 4x4 47RE in need of a rebuild. Got the whole smash for $550? Decent deal?

I am going to rebuild the 47RE myself with all the recomended upgrade parts and extra clutches. I'm skipping billet shafts cause there's no way I'm putting that much money into an automatic. Eventually I want a 6-speed but this should do it for now. I think if I build it right I should be ok up to about 1000 ft-lbs which is plenty as far as I'm concerned. The advantage of doing it this way is I can just swap the built trans for my stock one in a day instead of having the truck down for days or weeks while I buid the one in there. If the rebuild goes smoothly I can rebuild the stock one and resell it when I'm done too.

don't want to put the money into an auto? Finish the job, get a billet input, and it will probably be better than that 6spd. And buy the time you buy that 6spd, you could have just completely built the auto.

Where did you buy that from?

why would the tc give out?
Just think of it like a clutch that you don't operate with your foot. It's all automatic. If you have more power than it can handle, it will slip, wear down, burn up, etc...

Sorry for all the questions, but so a triple disc tv is not worth it unless u beef up the rest of the trans? How much power would it take to burn up a good single tc with a good vb?
