I have a 98.5 2500 4x4, I have 155,000 miles on it, I have been told to exspect no more then 125 to 175k out of the vp. My question is should I go ahead and replace it when I get my taxes in or see if it will last longer :confused013:? and should I upgrade it when I do?

Here's an idea; set aside $ for when it does happen and also determine beforehand where you'll get the replacement from, that way when it happens it won't be a surprise and you'll be ready for it. No sense replacing it if it isn't broken.

There's a guy at 1.7 million miles with a 24valve, and no mention of an injection pump failure. Keep an eye on your fuel pressure, keep your fuel clean and lubricated, and you should be fine. As already stated, saving up for a replacement VP44 of your choice isn't the worst idea in the world, but no sense in swapping out a properly functioning component like that.

270K miles on my 01 with the original VP44. My old man bought it with 15k in Jan of 01, added a helper in line lift pump in 05, then I put a AirDog 100 on it about a year ago. Still runs fine.

90powerram & RacePuller, its alot easier said then done when it comes to putting money back and holding on to it when your a single dad, it seems like something is always coming up. I do have a FASS inline 95/150 on it and I do put some Power Service additive every 2 to 3 tanks. So by the sound of it I should be alright. & Crossfit when using Two Stroke Oil in the tank, how much do you put per tank?

10-4 on ^^^^^
Makes the most sense and you never know, it could go for another 150k.

First OEM VP44 failed at 50K miles.

Second one is still running strong 159K miles. (209K on the truck).

* 2 Cycle Oil - Keeping the Fuel Lubricity up (<450 HFRR)
* Filtration - AirDog got 2-3 micron filters plus the stock can has a 10 micron fleetguard.
* Pressure - Hold 14-20 PSI and keeping the pump cooled and lubed.

Understood; how about opening a savings account and putting $10/paycheque in it? Much more manageable than a lump sum, and you'd be making interest on that money too.

I bought my truck with 296,xxx, and though I had to immediately replace the VP, the one I pulled out had no "remanufactured" tag and didn't have any overstamps.

If it were me I would do like the others said, put a little money aside every month, start running 2-stroke oil and ditch the power service! If its still running good, and has no codes, just keep it fueled with good pressure and you'll be good for a long time. If nothing else (besides the lubrication value) the 2-stroke oil will quiet the truck down, at least it quieted mine way down!

Ive got 241,xxx on mine, but i agree with a lot of these guys, keep up some lubrication, and obviously your fuel pressure. Why they have to keep pickin at our fuel is beyond me, seemed fine to me, but they gotta make money somehow :banghead:
