I have 1996 4x4 CC 5 speed getting a paint job, but I have also been looking at used 3500 4x4 quad cab duallies. I have found some nice looking trucks but it seems even the nicer trucks have 100K + miles on them and the owners are wanting more than top dollars. For example I found a 2004 quad 4x4 6speed dually with 120k miles and the prices is $22k. Is this too much coin for a 2004. What would you consider to be too many miles for a used truck?

Thanks.
Roger

look at NADA and Kelly Blue Book. Those should be your base line or a little above. Then check out what modifications they've done to the vehicles. If some of the warranties will roll over, then it's just that much better.

Last week I paid $12,800 + taxes for an '06 2500, 4x4 quad LWB with 143,000 miles. Body has a few dings here and there and the seats are stained, but runs great. I thought it was a heck of a deal.

I was using the 2004 truck as an example, but it does seem like this is the norm.
Thanks for the replies.

Got mine for 19k + 2k for a 60k mile powertrain. Put about 3k into it.

2004 Ram 3500 Laramie, Dually, 4x4, Nav ect. 74,000 miles.

I too have seen some crazy prices on trucks. As far as mileage, I would go for a truck that has been well cared for and doesnt need work vs. one with low miles, but is tired, even if it runs good.

Always better to pay the money up front, I learned that from an exotic car dealership several years ago, Alot of guys like to buy a good deal but they end up spending more in the long run ( and most times the short one too).

I bought my 04 Quad 2500 over a year ago with 215,000 miles on it for $8k, spent less than $2k on it (new Michelins made up half the money) Runs and drives great. Uses less than 1 qt of oil in 5k miles.

$16,500 for mine with 104,000. Needs a tranny though and Im still tryin to decide which one to get with a $3,500 budget.

Seems like a lot of people are getting these for around 20% less than KBB.
