I know these trucks "last forever" :hyper:, but what kind of mileage would make you pass up a truck if you were looking to buy a reliable daily driver/tow rig???

It would depend on if I knew the history of who owned the truck and how it was maintained. My first truck had 200,000 on it, but it was owned by a diesel shop manager and was kept in perfect shape and had complete maintenance records with it when I bought it. I ran it into the ground. Now I wish I had taken better care of it.
Yeah, knowing the history would help a bunch. I guess the average mileage on 2nd gens for sale would probably be around 150K (from what I've found). CR's are, obviously, going to be across the board. I saw an '05 with like 600K miles on it!
I just bought my '99 quad cab in december with 190,000 on it. To me, it was more about the shape that the truck was in than anything. I have had several people tell me that when they first saw my truck they thought it might have had 100k on it not almost 200k. The interior was perfect, no rust, until just after this winter:CRY:, and it runs like is has half the miles on it. My advice to anyone in buying a higher mileage diesel is try hard to find out the service history, if that doesn't work go over the exterior and interior of the truck with a fine tooth comb. If they are in good shape, in most cases I have seen, the mechanical maintence has been kept up with very well.
in my opinion is depends on what you want to do with it. if you plan on keeping it stock I say clean miles under 20 k per year. if you are going to buy it to beat it( racing,sled pulling) miles does not matter.
I am on my 4th truck and have bought all of them used. I would rather have a high mile highway driven truck than a low mile city truck. My 03 has 300 000 on it and all my trucks do more than 400 000 before I retire them by selling to someone else.Some of my buddys who have bought my old rides are driving them still.
Lots of oil changes and keep an eye on the obvious stuff. No duramax that I know about can rack the miles these cummins can. I would not hesitate to drive accross the country in my rig and half my miles have been under tow. Buy a truck out of rural Texas where they rack up lots of highway use and the weather does not mess with the trucks undercarriage. My last two were from SW Texas and I have no complaints...
My CR(06) had 107,200 miles when I bought it in Feb. now in has 128,800 and it is a daily driver. All I've done is a new clutch, A/C compressor, tires and oil changes. Miles don't hurt these trucks if the owners have taken care of them. To answer your question 300,000 would be my cut off. WHY? I don't really have a good answer for that these trucks should be good for another 200,000 IMO.
well. . . .there are a lotta things to consider 'bout mileage. if the truck is newer and has a lot of miles, then they were most likely all highway, which are good miles. if it's older and has a lotta miles then "who knows" what kinda miles they are, and you gotta be able to trust the owner. these trucks do have an insane rep for lastin', but anything can happen, especially if not maintained properly. more miles=more opportunity for idiots to neglect their maintenance/maintain wrong. i wouldn't feel too uncomfortable 'bout buyin anything under 200 thou if i knew the history, and the price was right. these motors can be "freshened" with rings and bearings for pretty cheap, reusing main parts.
