So here it is yall probably just another dumb question from a new guy but ill ask anyways. I did some searching and couldn't quite find exactly what im looking for. Basically the truck seems to be running hot to me today 65 degrees on the highway running 70-75 taching2k or a little over hottest it got was a needle width or 2 past the center or 200 Mark now when I coasted off of it it would cool back down to where it normally runs right on the 200 Mark so my question am I paranoid or am i running a little hot? Keep in mind this was empty
thanks guys

I always see 204 or so before the tstat kicks in and knocks it back to the low 190's. This is off my CTS, fyi. From what I've read and seen its right where it should be. Over 220 you should be getting a little more concerned about whats going on. My temps are as above whether empty or pulling. I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm an idiot but this is going on four years and I'm still going down the road, hth...gotta update my sig

Oh! you must change the theromstat, radiator cap, Flush the cooling system, inspect water pump impeller, Clean the radiator externall tubes, flush the heater core and enjoy it. The list will resolve at least 50% of known cooling issues. But not a blown head gasket of course.
Not doing suggestions will allow bilfold to stay infated, but not likely to cure issue...
this is the list suggested by posters on exactly the same compliant in another forum.

I know I need to spray out the radiator and intercooler good one time and listen for the fan clutch too bad it dosent lock up like a mack you'd think the fan would pull the engine out. If it really starts bugging me ill throw a t-stat in it doubt its been replaced....

I've read a lot of comments about the engine being hot... and I see my temp gauge at the 200 - 210 number... but if I stop at a rest stop and raise the hood the temperature of the top of the radiator, and the radiator is never that hot.. using a point and shoot temp gauge I've never seen over 180* and I can touch and hold the radiator cap...

So I wonder where the ECM picks up that data... or how its displayed..

Now I don't ever see as high as 200º .
Summer = 190º-198º
Winter = 185º-195º

Includes 6-10% uphill @ 20-30 mph in the Mountains on the way to fishing.
Before the new Thermostat and Coolant in 04/12, I might see 205º on the steepest part on the hotter days.

The Temp Sender is by the Thermostat housing, Try touching that.

I was seeing 200+ for a while. I knew it was time for a water pump due to the drips on the driveway and needing to top off the overflow on occasion.

Did the pump and t-stat (190*) and now it gets to 195 tops.
If you don't have any issues with the water pump, throw in a t-stat. Less than $20 and 20 minutes.
Should be done every few years anyway. Just cheap insurance. Well cheaper than a head gasket.

Never hurts to clean the rads. The a/c rad can be hinged out of way w/o disconnecting. The intercooler rad removed. The trans cooler rad hinged out of way w/o disconnecting. Then pressure wash the coolant rad - keep washer aimed straight at the rad so as not to bend fins. Then wash the other rads and reinstall.

If you still have heating problems, check the water pump and fins.
