I just bought an 06 with a 6 spd. I drove it up to 75 mph and I don't believe I can go any faster! This thing is turning major RPM's.

I am hovering around 2 grand or more at 65 mph.

I was hoping to make a long trip in this truck but I like to drive 75-79 MPH on the interstate. I am sure it will tow great but dang! I will have to add time to my trip! I am used to my old PSD. I could run 75 80 all day without winding it out too much.

So how fast will you drive for a long distance?

I must have really low gears.

I guess there is no way to determine gear ratio without jacking it up and counting rotations or calling the dealer.

You have 3.73 gears ( the only ratio available on '06 manual) it will redline at about 98 mph or so. You can run it at 75 - 80 all day long, but your mileage will suffer. You'll get used to it. And yes it does tow quite well.:peelout

Thanks, that is good info. I drove 80 today just to do it. I was at 2550 and yes, my mileage was suffering big time.

I have an 06 with 6 speed 3.73 gears and top out at 3200 rpm about 105 110 area anything over 2200 rpm starts cutting in to the fuel milage a lot. I wish I could get an aux. overdrive unit but can't afford it right now.

my 96 with 3.54 is at 2000 rpm at 74 mph. They are coming out with 3.42 gears for the dodge 2500 with AAM axels. Better for mileage

I have the 373 ratio in mine. AfterI got the Gear Venders unit in (it's like having a 7th gear) I tried it out one day, it was accelerating like crazy in 6th with the GV unit engaged. Then when it reached 115, everything shut down, boost fell, egt falling etc. I'm pretty sure the ecm is programed to shut the fuel off after reaching that speed. Has anyone else had that experience?

It was alittle over $2900., plus $500 something to have it installed at a local tranny shop. The installation figure was less because I did the wiring myself (I'm very picky about that, so I did it). After I watched the shop owner do the install, I discovered I could have done that to, but would have to take precise measurements to the driveline shop for the shorter piece.
My mileage has gone up by about 3 mpg, but that is on the low side as I just can't resist mashing on the thottle all the time. Before the GV my rpm was about 2200 @ 70 mph, and now it's dropped to 1750 at that speed.
