I have a bone stock standard output 2003 ram 2500 qc lb truck and want to add a smarty, I already know the s-06 smarty can provide more fuel than this HE341 can handle, what im asking is what is the highest setting I can safely use ? I do tow alot in the range of 8-12k. What specific limitations does this turbo have ?

I just got the truck so when funds permit im swapping to an HE351cw and bigger downpipe

oh and truck has nv4500 trans

I've been running the s06 pod for a while now on 8. But you have to have supporting mods to run the higher settings I think stock they don't recommend over 4 or 5. If your wot for long periods it gets hot but i never had too much troubles. I am swapping chargers now and I pulled the 341 and it is in good shape with only normal shaft play. So your answer would be you can run high settings and a lot of fuel..because I have a lot of fuel for a stock charger and be fine if your not stompping on it all the time. You just got to be smart about it and use your head with hard pulls.
The 351 is a good upgrade if you only want small drop in egt and small gain in hp. Hope this helps you out a little

What size is the stock DP and what size is the typical upgraded DP?

If you want to upgrade the turbo and want a little more than the the 351 (to make it more worth your while), what's the next step for a rig that will still be used for pulling 12-15K?

Stock dp on the 03-04 is 3.5" I believe. Stock on 04.5+ is 4'". Typical downpipe size i s 4" you can get a 5" dp but its just overkill unless your making big numbers. If your looking for something more than the 351 there are tons of options out there just depends what kind of power your looking for and your supporting mods. If your towing 12-15k often you need something that will spool quickly maybe like a 62/65/14 or a 62/68/14 you could also run 12cm housing instead of the 14cm. But a lot depends on your mods and fuel to make the right choice. There are a lot of good sponsers on here that would treat you right. JKidd is a good guy to deal with.

Also if you guys fill in your sigs it'd be a little easier to accurately answer your questions. Definitely when it.comes.to what charger to run...that's a big choice and money to spend.

You don't want to tow cranked all the way up either or you're going to kill that NV4500. Especially the clutch, without a load on top setting will kill a stock clutch in no time flat.
