When you open your tailgate, how close does it come to touching the rear bumper? I had a paint shop replace my bumper once and when my tailgate is open, the distance between the bumper and the tailgate is less than 1/4". It just about touches and there even looks to be a spot where it actually did touch, even though that doesn't make sense. I think its to close but I'm not sure if its supposed to be that way or is this an adjustment fix?

My tailgate would touch the bumper when open when I first bought the truck. I was able to loosen the bumper bolts and pull the bumper down and tighten it back up.

My bumper had been pushed up to the point it was touching my open tailgate. I carefully adjusted it with a 2x4 and a sledge. It moved easily. I did both sides so it's finally straight.

I had already tried adjusting it with the bolts but there wasn't enough wiggle room.

Yea, I've definitely learned not to ever place anything on the bumper. Guaranteed you will forget its there when you try and open the tailgate. Luckily, I haven't done any damage.
