Im not the VP man but from what i've read on here theres no need for a hot rod VP if you use a programmer or tunner. Someone correct me if im wrong.

ok 1. i agree with dustin88 your stock vp44 pump should be good, and yeah thats what they cost (get ready to bend over ) 2. yes. you need a fass fuel system with your vp44 (dont be like me and get one with filters :thumbsup) your fass pump is now your lift pump, it gets rid of the one on your firewall (or if you have an OEM replacement its in the tank). i have done this once before and its not fun. but if i had to do it again, i would bite the bullet and get the p-pump conversion, the vp44s are junk (this is coming from a guy that works for cummins). good luck man hope i helped

dont replace your vp44 til it goes no need to spend all the money if your sticking with a vp unless your gonna p pump it just my .02 for the cost of a hot rod pump id just wait til it goes and thats what everyone says that i have talked too. too much money just to spend when your factory is still working fine

these guys are right on. go with the fass and stick with the stock vp for now. i wouldn't put a HRVP on even if my stock HO goes out, in fact i would most likely throw a standard output in. they're capable of producing higher #'s than the HO. pump

Once you upgrade the LP to the FASS or AirDog you will never run out of fuel and ruin the VP. If you dont upgrade the pump you will have to do a VP soon. The fuel cools and lubes the internals of the VP; no fuel, blown pump.
I like my AirDog Raptor 100gph because it has the built in fuel pressure regulator. I see a set 14.5 psi at all times.
If the pump is still on your block the install will take about 3-4 hrs. If you have the in tank pump you either have to drop the tank and install a Draw Straw kit or the better solution is to go back to the old style sender unit. I have heard that its hard to pull fuel through the in tank pump to the FASS or AirDog. Again, not a hard job but 3-4 hrs to do it in the drive with a jack and a friend. Spray the tank straps with Pb-Blaster a couple days before you do the job. Good Luck... Chris
