So the ol crew can has been trucking along great. But over the last few months I have noticed it has been smoking a lot more. It is hazing at an idle, which it's never done. You can't drive it normally without it smoking and even at wide open throttle its smoking. Which it didnt fo before.

About 6 months ago I put an new ve pump on it because the old one one ate itself alive. Same injectors, fuel pin, the AFC top is ground out and pre boost screw backed all the way out and the fuel screw is turned in till run away then backed out 1/4 turn.

5x.14 injectors, 369 over k27 compounds, 2nd gen intercooler and piping. Truck is still pushing the same boost numbers as the day I put it together and I have checked boots for leaks. Could I have a bad injector from the pump destroying itself?

Also the egt's are through the roof!

Pull the afc top off and see if the fuel pin is sticking down. Might be a good idea to send injectors to be tested just for piece of mind. I’ve also noticed my truck smokes more depending on where I get fuel from. So I found one place the truck likes and do what I can to stick to it.

Yeah I was almost wondering if I didn't have a broken AFC spring or something. I have it really tight on the star wheel so that is a possibility. I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to mess with it at all I just keep driving it, but I was screwing around with it last night when nobody pulled out in front of me in his Ford. I cannot believe how quick the egts climbed and how bad it was smoking. It wasn't overly hot yesterday either so I'm not sure air temperature

Just giving you things to think about.
Was it a stock overhaul or a performance overhaul.
Did this start with the pump R&R.
If it's an automatic, check your TV cable adjustment.
Turbo shaft seals leaking.
You say the old pump "ate itself". Did filings wind up in the injector.

It was a stock rebuild and it is a 5-speed truck. Yes the pump literally ate itself up, that's what makes me think that there's something that we either went through the injectors or are in the injectors and not letting them shut properly. I have a set of 5 by 12 somewhere I believe they're in my attic, so I need to call up there and find them we are supposed to pull our big camp trailer next weekend and I don't want to put it behind it the way it is because it's just going to get hot

Hope it's not a turbo shaft seal, he's turbos don't even have 10,000 miles on them. The 369 has already been warranty because it had a seal leak. I never thought of that being the cause:spank:

I don’t believe a injector is hanging open unless your seeing a bunch of white smoke.... these little ve pumps aren’t like the common rail trucks that will just constantly blow fuel through a dead injector.

Edit just remembered you said it was hazing at idle, might be a good idea to test the injectors.

Well I had a couple spare minutes to tear into the truck last night. Found a broken AFC reference line and the pin inside the pump that slides on the fuel pin was a little sticky. Cleaned up the slide pin and lube it up replaced my AFC line with some wastegate hose I had left over from my Boost controller install. I haven't had a chance to really drive it yet. We'll take it for a spin after work today and see what happens

I’ve had issues with that slide pin getting sticky too, I run 1qt of generic 2 stroke oil to a full tank of fuel and haven’t had any issues since.

So I got the little pin unstuck and replace my reference line. Didn't change a thing. So I was doing some more digging and found a drive pressure leak right off the exhaust manifold to the Turbo. It's not horrible but it's definitely a leak beings that it's at the first turbo in line off the exhaust side I'm assuming that's what's causing some of my problem. To make matters worse the bolts are stuck. So I ordered new studs and Gasket they will be here tomorrow. So hopefully I have time to get that fixed

What exactly is a “drive pressure leak right off the exhaust manifold to the turbo” ?

Is this PDD speak for a T3 gasket exhaust leak ?
