The engine mounted lift pump seems to be dead on my 92 350.
Question; Will the holley red pump mounted under the hood pull fuel from the tank or will I have to mount it under by the tank? I have the stock pump by passed.
I am using biodiesel, and blending wvo which is not good for the rubber parts that are used in the stock pumps.

Thanks Tom

I dont mean to hijack your thread but....

I called holley cause I got a blue pump and I they said that it is not compatable with diesel fuel. It will work for a while and then, fizz. bully dog sells a big line kit and they sell it with a holley blue pump, IDK? I called Bdog and their story was that it was ok. Has any one run one of theses kits, and how long?

To answer your question, your e pump must be at the rear, e-pumps can only push, therefore must be as close to the tank as possible. (no more that 24 inches and they must/ idealy be even with/lower than the bottom of the tank, otherwise you will have cavitation, ask me how I know.) Mech pumps pull great, so they can be at the front.

I also have a red pump sitting on shelf. I called Holley and they told me that they have never tested their pumps with diesel fuel but they have people do it and have no problems as long as you have a pre filter before the pump. I am on the fence about putting it in as my factory lift pumps looks new and works fine for now.

You always want the pump as close to the tank as possible, the fuel pickup is better. The red pump on the frame next to the tank is pretty common.

FWIW, a friend of mine put fuel injection on his '46 Ford, and had a red Holley "race pump"... He joked that they had to call it a "race pump" because it wasn't reliable enough for the street... He'd apparently be sitting on a hill and the baffle would get drained and the pump would suck air... Have to take the cover off the pump and slather a little bit of grease in it to get it to seal well enough to suck the air to bring new fuel up...
