Hey everyone. Been searching and lurking for a while now. I’ve got a ‘16 3500 dually with 295/55/20’s and I’m running around 2-2100 rpms at 70 mph. This seems a little high as I have buddies running around 1700 rpms.

Does this seem right? Is an auto trans ratios different from the G56?

What RPM’s are you guys running and is it worth changing to a 3.42?

Thanks

That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Mainly highway miles not pulling a lot. What rpm could I expect with the 3.42’s? Thanks

Yup completely normal with a g56 and 3.73s. If all you seldom do any towing or at least not heavy, 3.42s are great highway gears.

70 for me with a g56 is around 1900 I think. If you really want to know speeds for a given rpm I'll make a note next time I drive the truck. If I could find someone with a srw 3.73 truck I'd swap everything in a heartbeat. Towing heavy with 3.73s is so much more enjoyable imo.

Same here, I pretty much only use the truck for towing 26k-30k lbs on average and would love to have 3.73 vs my 3.42, plus backing up would be bearable with 3.73. The reverse gear is almost as tall as 2nd, I would like to know what idiot decided the reverse gear need to be that tall?

BD 2-Low kit is the way to go.

Even with 3.73s backing up with a heavy trailer is rough. Still to fast to back into a tight spot. 2lo is really to only answer for that. I dont know why we need to be able to go 20 mph backwards

You guys are correct about the 2w low but I have a one of those 2wd trucks that almost don’t exist lol. It’s a tow rig and I got a killer deal on it. Couldn’t be to picky
