High idle question

511 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  MoparProud
So now that it’s getting colder my truck is starting to high idle when I first start it in the morning. I have always wondered if it would be bad in the long run for the engine. I can’t understand how it’s “safe” for the truck to idle at 1k rpm when the oil hasn’t had a chance to warm up yet?? Any thoughts or am I just being over protective. 😂😂😂

In the south, i wouldnt worry about it, even if your running dino 15w40 down there. New synthetic oils have a lot better cold flow properties and they stick to the components better. Unless your in subzero weather, your going to have adequate flow and protection almost immediately after starting.
