So I got a Retro-Solution 55w 6000k 9004 kit about a month ago. Put them in stock housings, but I couldn't get those plastic rings on to lock them in place so I tossed into the shop. Well the driver's side bulb came loose and melted some plastic on to the bulb. Cleaned it up, still works and everything but I'm assuming that this caused a hot spot and it will eventually go out. I'm going to use it until it does. I have a few questions:
1) Do I need to trim these plastic rings to fit around the HID bulb to lock it in place?
2) Stock housing aren't made for HID's, this I know. I checked eBay/Amazon and found some projectors but they don't make it clear if they come with HID's or what, so can anyone link me some good projectors that they have experience with that are just the housings, no bulbs or anything.
3) Do Halo lights pose any advantages, or is it just purely looks?
4) Can anyone recommend a good place to get 9004 HID bulbs that aren't $50 like Retro-Solutions. I know you get what you pay for, that's why I'm not paying for the $6 ones on Amazon. Just want to find the median..

I know that's a handful of questions, but I tried to organize it to make it easier to answer. Thank you for such a great and informative forum, not sure what I'd do without this community.

$50 bulbs are the middle ground. Good phillips bulbs can be $100 or better a piece. If you want good quality for a decent price, check out TRS.

I'd suggest doing a retrofit if you want the job done properly. The projector housings on ebay aren't usually HID housing, they're just cheap optics and cheap housings. To do an HID in a reflector housing the correct way, you need a real projector designed for an HID bulb.

2. N/A, I used aftermarket black housing headlights non projectors
3. No purpose just looks
4. I order all my HID's through ddmtuning.com, I have yet to have a problem with them.

ebay projectors are junk. they are just looks with no performance what so ever.

morimoto mini projectors work well though, but you either have to fork out $500+ for someone else to build you a set, or retrofit the projectors into clear lens housings yourself.

I ordered mine off eBay as much as I hate to say it. So far so good though. No glare here and they are way better than my previous headlights.

I'm lookin at gettin a set of regular headlights and retrofitting them with the morimoto projector, I have a set of eBay lights with halogen projectors that I'm rubbing TRS HID's in now, light output is good but I'm sure it could be better. I got the money to spend on the kit and I'm willing to play around with it, without putting my truck off the road for a while, even tho it's down with a broken steering box right now.

I've had 2 sets of eBay pojectors. 1 chrome, 1 black. Modded them to accept HID and modded the cut off in them. Only problem I had was forgot to seal back if light and got moisture inside. Hairdryer and silicone fixed that. Have them adjusted low and light output is 10x better than stock.
