sounds like a lift pump or vp pump problem with start up pressure..... at least that was what it was with my bros truck and it was an 01 24v

if the truck is a 00-02, do the "key trick" for codes:

turn the key on, off, on, off, on, DON'T crank, write the codes down and post em up...

FYI, ether plus grid heaters ain't a good combo...

yes you can use it so long as you don't drown the intake with it. used in reserved quantities such as short bursts is allowable in my opinion, but yea too much ether and the grid heater would be not so wise. just short squirts

yeah i understand that :headbang: but i honestly don't believe that it will hurt an engine such as the lil ol' 5.9 cummins so long as it's just a lil bit:thumbsup:

Okay just put a Helix 2 yesterday in my 24v. When you crank it, it blows white smoke and won't fire. When you spray ether in it, it finally fires up. It has a slight haze at idle now where as before it didn't. Before I had an ATS towing cam in it. Any ideas? :confused013::confused013:
Well if it was running before you changed the cam then I wonder if you have the new cam timed correctly. Beyond that I wonder if all your injection lines are air free. We also need to know what your fuel pressure is, and any codes. I'm not sure what you are looking for, but a cam change is about the last thing I would change on these engines, unless there was something very specific I was trying to achieve. Sure would be nice if you put your truck details in your signature.

Oh and for the guys getting hung up on ether, and not the problem. There is nothing wrong with ether as long as grid heaters and glow plugs are not active. That’s why the airbox has the warning.
